Tanner's Story
My name is Tanner and I am a 5-year-old Poodle who weighs about 18 lbs.

I'm a very sweet, gentle boy who is happiest when I'm around people and my little dog friends. I currently spend time in the small dog playroom here at ODR and do very well with the other dogs. I was also reported to have previously lived with another dog, so having a canine companion may be a great fit for me, but not a must.

I do have one special feature that my future family should know about: my left eye is smaller than normal and is most likely non-visual. It does not currently bother me, and our veterinarian suspects this is something I was born with. It does need a little extra care to keep me comfortable and looking my best. My family will need to gently clean any crusting around the eye every few days with appropriate eye wipes and keep the hair around it trimmed.

I'm a very patient boy for this care, especially when I'm comfortable with the person handling me. Once I trust you, I'm happy to cooperate and let you take care of me.

The humans here also noticed that I was occasionally skipping with my back legs while playing, so our veterinarian did some additional testing. My hip joints look normal, but x-rays showed that my kneecaps can luxate toward the outside of my legs, which is called lateral patellar luxation. It was difficult to fully evaluate the luxations while I was awake, so we don't have a specific grade for them at this time.

This isn't stopping me from being a happy, active little guy, but it is something my future family should be aware of as I get older. I may benefit from joint support and anti-inflammatory medication as needed with age, and keeping me at a healthy, lean weight will be especially important for protecting my knees and keeping me comfortable. My family should also have my knees monitored by their veterinarian and watch for increased skipping, limping, stiffness, or signs of discomfort as I age.

Otherwise, I'm just a really lovely little guy looking for someone who will appreciate my sweet nature. I enjoy my dog friends, I enjoy my people, and I'm ready to find a family who will give me the love and care I deserve.

If you're looking for a gentle little companion with a big heart, I'd love to meet you.
