Meet Mr. Tanner, here's what his owners that surrendered him after 5 years of being adopted from our rescue.:

Age: 6 years
Breed: Pit Bull
Weight: 90 lbs
Neutered: Yes
Vaccines: Up to date
Dog Friendly: Selective — does well with some dogs
Cat Friendly: No
Kid Friendly: Did well with grandchildren 12 and 17
Energy Level: Low to moderate
House Trained: Yes
Crate Trained: Not needed — does well when left alone
Leash Trained: Yes, with mild pulling around small animals
Behavioral/Health Notes: Healthy, strong, and loves a routine. A really good boy

Tanner is a big, lovable sweetheart recently returned to our rescue after five years in a home. His former family is heartbroken to part with him, and we’ve seen firsthand in his foster home that he’s a gentle, affectionate boy who just wants to be close to his people — a true lap dog in a 90-pound body.

His return wasn’t due to behavioral issues inside the home, but rather because he cannot safely live around cats or small animals. After a second serious incident involving a neighbor’s cat, his adopters were no longer allowed to keep him in their rental. Despite this, they spoke very highly of him, sharing that he’s well-mannered, calm, and loving — a dog who enjoys long walks but is just as happy snoozing around the house.

He’s done great with some larger dogs, including neighbor dogs he saw regularly, but did not get along with a small dog in the extended family. He has lived peacefully with older children and enjoys quiet companionship.

He knows basic commands, has earned a Canine Good Citizen certificate, and has been a model guest in his current foster home. He’s fully house-trained, not destructive, and does well being left alone indoors.

We’re seeking a home without cats or small pets, ideally one that understands large-breed dogs and can provide a calm, stable environment. Tanner’s a great companion who still has so much love to give.

Interested in fostering or adopting Tanner?
We’d love to introduce you to this big baby.
