Tango's Story
Tango is a 5-year-old Husky mix who’s been through a lot, but is proving to be a total sweetheart. She ended up on the euthanasia list at the shelter after snapping at a leash when being returned to her kennel, but the rest of her notes showed a well behaved, affectionate dog. During her evaluation, Tango entered and exited her kennel with no issues, accepted all the affection we could give, and showed no reactivity to other dogs. She even wagged her tail when meeting new people and allowed an allowed us to handle her—including checking her teeth! She sits politely, takes treats gently, and walks beautifully on leash. This girl is gentle, loving, and clearly had just one bad day that nearly cost her everything.

Now in a foster home, Tango has adjusted beautifully. She’s mellow, affectionate, and absolutely loves her walks. She loves a belly rub and is a true cuddle bug—always happy to relax with her people or climb into your lap. Tango can be playful but shows signs of wanting to be in charge with other dogs, so she may do best as the only pet or with calm companions. She’s protective of her food, so she’ll need a home that can respect those boundaries, especially if there are children. Luckily, she responds very well to verbal correction and redirection. Some of her favorite things include mealtime, tasty treats, belly rubs, walks, and soaking up all the love she can get.

Tango had some hindlimb lameness that we could not seem to figure out, so we ended up getting her a neurological consult and MRI. We found an infection in her spine and treated with antibiotics - it is a particularly nasty one that we will discuss more with interested adopters as it may require longterm antibiotic use. She has recovered so well and is clearly feeling so much better now she is receiving treatment though!

Tango would thrive in a home that’s either active or mellow—she’s flexible, as long as she gets her walks and affection. She’s currently living with both small and large dogs, but may do best as the only dog or with other animals who respect her space. She hasn’t been tested with cats, so we are not quite sure how she would do living with them. She’s could be good with children ages 3 and up, as long as they can understand and respect her food boundaries.
