Legacy Of Love 805's Adoption Policy
Legacy of Love Adoption Policies At Legacy of Love, our goal is to ensure that every rescued pet is placed in a safe, loving, and responsible home. To achieve this, we have a structured adoption process that includes home checks, reference verification, and an adoption fee to support our mission. 1. Adoption Application All potential adopters must complete an adoption application providing details about their home, lifestyle, experience with pets, and expectations. Applications are reviewed by our adoption team to ensure a suitable match between the adopter and the pet. 2. Reference Checks Personal References: Adopters must provide at least two personal references who can vouch for their ability to provide a safe and loving home. Veterinary Reference: If the adopter has had previous pets, we require a vet reference to confirm responsible pet ownership, including vaccination history and routine care. Landlord Approval: If the adopter rents their home, we require written permission from the landlord confirming pets are allowed. 3. Home Check A home visit (virtual or in-person) is required to ensure the environment is safe and suitable for the pet. We check for secure fencing, appropriate space, and potential hazards to the pet’s well-being. If a home visit is not possible, detailed photos/videos of the home may be accepted on a case-by-case basis. 4. Adoption Fee Adoption fees help cover veterinary care, vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures, food, and general care expenses. Fees vary based on the pet’s age, breed, and medical needs but generally range from $150 - $800. Discounts may be available for senior pets, bonded pairs, or special-needs animals. 5. Spay/Neuter Policy All pets are spayed or neutered before adoption unless a medical exemption applies. If a pet is too young at the time of adoption, the adopter must sign a spay/neuter contract and complete the procedure at an approved veterinary clinic. 6. Return Policy If an adopter needs to rehome their pet at any point after adoption, they must notify Legacy of Love, and we will assist in finding a new home. Pets may never be surrendered to a shelter. 7. Lifetime Commitment Adopters must agree to provide lifelong care, proper veterinary attention, and a loving home for the pet. If circumstances change, Legacy of Love must be contacted for rehoming assistance.
