Syah's Story
**$74 in pledges to any rescue that may pull!**

**New behavior notes 12/12!**

Syah ACCT-A-237829 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Syah must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by MONDAY, DECEMBER 15TH at 10AM. Should Syah's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Syah came to ACCT Philly on November 22nd after being found as a stray 4 days prior. His finder described him as friendly, cuddly, playful. Now at the shelter, Syah is adjusting to kennel life while continuing to show everyone what a sweet and eager companion he can be. Syah is an enthusiastic, loving, strong boy who enjoys attention, playtime, and exploring the world on walks. He has shown steady progress with new handlers, becoming wiggly and affectionate once he feels comfortable. Outside, he enjoys gentle handling, leans in for affection, and even engages in play. He has also done well meeting other dogs. With guidance, structure, and continued positive exposure, Syah has every opportunity to thrive. Due to his length of stay, Syah is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

VIDEOS:

Pets for Syah: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/CNcAX-q_VLU?si=bN0XkcoTUTQvBbBp

Scritches for Syah: https://youtu.be/i3-TkMPkRbw

Syah knows sit: https://youtube.com/shorts/njRp5IvUmNU?si=qpFnBYW12X5Jp0GD

Syah and Moana dog meets:

https://youtube.com/shorts/tm--zN48v-s?si=XAd45Z6eIy3-N_OO

https://youtube.com/shorts/dpKaY74WbD8?si=a6OrGGKVtthY1eKB

https://youtube.com/shorts/iD6qRiZZs3A?si=BNYSukQtw4u0QWXu

BEHAVIOR:

*NEW!*

Per staff 12/12: Spray lavender at the front of the kennel, came to the front with tail middle wagging stiffly. I started talking to him and he jumped in lunge at the kennel with hard eyes and high flagging tail. I asked him to sit and he got off the bars and did not sit, but stood there calmly with ears back tail down, wagging loosely, soft eyes. Ultimately did sit after I gave him a treat, which he took gently, then he offered a sit for another.

His behavior at the kennel does consistently appear to be the fact that he is anticipating a walk and is frustrated, and wants to go out as he keeps his kennel very clean

Per staff 12/10: Tried to take out for meet. Failed to get the leash on and he tried to bolt. When I went to shut the door he lunged at me and started low growling. Slowly backed my arm out of the kennel and he began to bark and jump up at the door. Potential adopter said Syah was growling when he walked up to the kennel as well. May be having a bad day as I have not seen any prior notes like this.

Per staff 12/9: Medium energy. Strong but easy to leash up. Loves treats. Good dog.

Per volunteer 12/7: Medium energy. Photoshoot. No interest in toys. Enjoyed running in yard. Knows sit.

Per staff 12/4: Medium energy. Strong boy. Leans into me for pets. Let him run out in the yard, got zoomies and walked better on the way back.

Per volunteer 11/29: Tonight had Syah out for a run and he is a nice strong boy for about 5 min and then he slows down to a nice easy pace. But he's a very well behaved boy as tonight on h.p ave a person had their dog off leash with him and the dog sprinted 30 yards to meet Syah. Syah was completely cool with the dog and then as they were playing , somehow I tripped over and was on [the ground] for a few seconds and Syah sat down in front of me, in between me and the other dog so the other dog couldn't get to me if they wanted to, so he's a very dog friendly boy and a nice protective boy but he didn't start anything as the other dog was friendly. We then came back to acct and 2 more times the dog ran over to him as the owner refused to hold the leash that the dog had on.

Per staff 11/29: Dog reactive. Runs on leash. Pulls very hard. Needed to use harness method w/ leash.

Per staff 11/26: High energy. Strong.

Per staff 11/26: Syah was pulling strongly towards Moana with a wagging tail. Sniffing her with a high wagging tail. after sniffing he disengaged himself, walking away. we tried letting them interact again, Moana coming in hot to see him. He pulled his head back, before pulling towards her to say hi again with a wagging tail. He tried to engage in some play and placed his head on top of Moana's head, to which she corrected him. he took the correction very well and was even a bit startled.

Per staff 11/25:

Kennel Presentation: Syah was laying down on the backside when I approached. I called him over and with a low tail and soft eyes he came up. I offered him some hot dogs which he took very gently. The more I praised him and the more food he got, his tail began to wag (mid level). I asked him to sit and he alert barked at me. I tossed him some more treats and asked him if he wanted to go outside. He saw the leash and did some excited barks which turned into a little howl. I was able to easily leash him and he came right out once secured.

Leash Skills: Pulls very strongly - i made my leash into a harness and carried another leash as a precaution - recommend bringing a second handler due otherwise size and strength.

Sociability: Took Syah outside to potty first. As soon as he touched the grass he went to the bathroom. We then saw a dog which he pulled towards. After grabbed him attention again we walked around as he directed me (pulled me) whenever he wanted to go. I did some handling which he enjoyed, especially liking the butt smacks. He was loose and wiggly and leaned against my leg.

Play: Engaged in some play, trotted around with me

Dog Interaction: Pulled very strong towards a smeduim sized dog. Did a play bow with a mid to high wagging tail, I used treat to pull him away.

Return to Kennel: Hopped onto the dogs kennel right next to him, i directed him down and he walked right back into his kennel.

Color Level: Exp blue due to size and strength.

Per staff 11/23: During my morning walk through when I stopped at her kennel her eyes were wide, ears back and she was panting. I offered a treat which she took gently, I started talking in a baby voice and her tail was down with little tail wags that would stop if I stopped talking.

Per staff 11/22: According to ACA was dog reactive and working himself up in the front. Was pulling the ACA around and pulling towards other dogs. ACA's didn't have the best control so he was double leashed. Brought to a kennel through the quiet hallway and used hook to remove leashes and collar.

MEDICAL:

12/1 Vet Exam:

Objective: Coughing frequently w/ terminal retch. Tachypneic while lying down in kennel.

Assessment: Complicated upper respiratory infection, concern for infectious pneumonia.

Plan: Pneumovirus PCR: Negative

Treatments: Clindamycin 450 mg PO BID x 14 days. Enrofloxacin 408 mg PO SID x 14 days.

11/23 Intake Exam:

Weight- 86.6 lbs

Body Condition Score- 6 - Stout

Age-2

Urogenital-male

Altered-intact

Eyes-nsf

Ears-red clean

Nose-clear

Coat/Skin-clean

Teeth-clean

Gums-pink moist

Musculoskeletal-

Behavior-BAR

On 11/22, Syah was prescribed courses of gabapentin and trazodone due to his behavior upon entering the shelter.

ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
