Sweetheart's Story

Sweetheart Lab-mix DOB: 1/7/19 (4yo) Female (spayed) Dog-friendly Kid-friendly (fostered with older children only) Cats unknown Crate-trained House-broken 48 lbs Sweetheart is just absolutely perfect! She loves everything and everyone. When she sees someone new, her entire back-end wags in delight! Sweetheart was saved from a high-kill shelter in TX, but you would never know all she's been through from her happy demeanor. She is fostered in WNY with a resident dog and is extremely playful while also respectful with him. She does let him know if he's getting too close when she has a bone or food, but who doesn't want their space when they have a super yummy treat?! At night, she goes into her crate and sleeps right through! She's had VERY FEW accidents in her foster's home and none in her crate. She is treat-motivated and eager to please. She is the BIGGEST cuddle-bug you will ever meet! After some fun outdoor playtime, her favorite thing to do is to cuddle up with her humans on the couch. She is the perfect balance of fun/goofiness while also having a GREAT off-switch. She hasn't chewed a single thing in her foster's home except for her dog toys!! She is a perfect angel! . Nickel City Canine Rescue, Inc.'s Adoption Policy

Once you have completed and submitted your application, a volunteer will contact your veterinarian and personal references. After that, the volunteer will contact you to set up a home visit. The home visit is to ensure your home is a safe environment for a dog. The volunteer will give a brief background of the rescue, review important adoption information and discuss with you your adoption goals. If the volunteer believes you are a fit dog parent, you will receive an approval card. Don't lose your approval card, as it is your "golden ticket" for adopting. Now that you are pre-approved, you can watch the website/Facebook page. When you see a dog you are interested in, you can either send a Facebook message or email to the rescue to be put on a list for the dog. The foster will then contact you when the dog is ready for a meet and greet.
