Sweet Pea's Story

Meet Sweet Pea, from the Botanical Litter!

Sweet Pea was the runt of her litter. She was rejected by her mother at 2 weeks old, and tossed out of the whelping box by her tail, resulting in half her tail missing. She was bottle fed, and socialized by rotating out her other littermates and mature adult dogs for playtime.

She has a blind spot in one of her eyes, but that doesn't slow her down one bit, and has no other known disabilities. We will ask that her adopter buys monthly pet insurance, or has a financial plan in place assuming she has a disability we haven't detected yet. Often times, runts from a big litter like hers are rejected simply because the young mother is overwhelmed. However, there are rare instances where a mother will reject a pup for a congenital defect we do not see until later.

She and her 8 siblings were born on Nov. 24th, at a shelter in South Texas. Her mother, Nikita, is a 50 lb smooth coat border collie, and we expect the litter to have multiple sires.

At this time, they are 6 weeks.

Her tax-deductible adoption fee is $400, and she will come UTD on vaccines, have a spay voucher, on parasite prevention, dewormed, chipped, and given a trainer discount. Attending training classes with a CPDT is mandatory upon adopting a young puppy from us, as we want them to grow into productive members of society. Our partnered trainer in Austin, TX charges $135 for 3 private sessions.

If you email us to ask how much "she costs", we will assume you cannot read, follow clear directions, and will void your application.

We prioritize breed-experienced adopters* local to Central Texas, but will consider exceptional out-of-state adopters as well, at the adopter's expense**

*****Please email herdinghomerescue@gmail.com for an adoption application*****

For updates, follow us at facebook.com/HerdingHomeRescue

We have no strict rules on fencing, but will ask how you provide enrichment for working breed dogs.

*Please research breed traits before applying. Working breed dogs are more intense than companion breeds, and have higher needs for enrichment. If you are looking for a couch potato for your 4 year old child, these puppies are probably not the right fit for you.

**When conducting out of state adoptions, we thoroughly review the application and conduct a virtual home inspection. If approved, a HHAR representative will travel to you, at your expense, with the dog, to conduct a final in-person check, finalize paperwork, and drop off the pet.
