Suzu's Story

Visitors are limited to approved applicants only. Please fill out an adoption application if you are interested in stopping by. We will be in touch once your application is approved to set up a visit.

Adopt: lighthouseanimalshelter.org/adopt
Foster: lighthouseanimalshelter.org/foster

---
Suzu is a calm, loyal companion who’s happiest soaking up the sun, taking long walks, and curling up next to her person at the end of the day.

She’s gentle and loving, with a peaceful presence that makes her feel like home from the moment you meet her.

She thrives on routine and connection. Suzu starts each day with a long walk (up to 3.5 miles!) and walks beautifully on a leash, though she can get a little excited when she sees other dogs. She doesn’t bark or growl — just wants to say hello — and can be easily managed with a harness and a steady hand. She loves car rides, soft beds, and will happily empty the toy box when she’s feeling playful.

Suzu is fully house-trained, rarely barks, and has no need for a crate. She’s great with people and enjoys meeting new friends, but she needs to be the only pet in the home. Though she’s friendly on walks, Suzu becomes protective if she has to share her people’s attention indoors. She’s not aggressive outside — she just wants her humans all to herself.

Her ideal home is a quiet one, with a fenced yard, no other pets, and people who are home often (or will shower her with love when they return). Suzu is that rare mix of independent and affectionate, loyal and low-maintenance.

She seems to know she’s been given a second chance — and she doesn’t take it for granted. For the right person, Suzu will be a steady, loving presence and a devoted best friend. Could that person be you?
---

We do not adopt on a first-come-first-serve basis, but rather by the best match between dog and family, although we will factor in the order of applications if there are equally good matches.

Our adoption fee for adult dogs is $500 which covers the costs of vetting (spay, vaccinations, heartworm testing, preventatives while in our care, deworming and microchip) and any boarding or transport fees incurred in each dog's rescue. Senior dogs are $250.
