When our Tennessee partner was contacted about puppies being given away, the response about their mom was heartbreaking: Susie was going to be euthanized because her family was moving and didn’t want to take her with them.<br/><br/>Thankfully, she was surrendered instead, arriving at the shelter with her five babies and weighing just 26 pounds, completely depleted from caring for them.<br/><br/>Despite everything, Susie was a devoted, loving mama who gave all she had to raise happy, healthy puppies who are now flourishing with their adoptive families.<br/><br/>With proper care and love, Susie is now a healthy ~40 pounds and continuing to blossom. She is incredibly sweet, gentle, and affectionate once she has time to warm up. She's an easy houseguest who rarely makes a peep and is happiest curled up in her safe space. She does show signs of past trauma and may flinch at loud noises or sudden movements, but with reassurance, she settles and relaxes. Because of this, a calm, patient home - adults or children 12+ - would be the best fit for her.<br/><br/>Recently, Susie has started to show her playful side: getting excited over toys, prancing around, and wagging her tail when she's happy. Watching her discover joy has been incredibly special.<br/><br/>She is not yet confident on leash, so a fenced-in yard would be ideal while she continues to build confidence, though it's not required. Susie is fully potty and crate trained and is food/treat motivated. She's been respectful of kitties and has done well meeting calm, respectful dogs. Slow introductions will help set her up for success.<br/><br/>Susie is a beautiful, loyal girl with the gentlest heart. After spending her early life caring for others, it's finally her turn to be loved.<br/><br/>Will you be her second chance at happiness?
