Sunshine's Story

Meet Sunshine!

Sunshine is a sweet 1-year-old Pit Bull mix with so much love to give. She can be timid when meeting new people or experiencing unfamiliar things, but once she realizes she's safe, she warms up and becomes completely devoted to her person. Cuddling is her absolute favorite, and she's happiest following her people around and being part of whatever they're doing.

Her foster describes Sunshine as an incredibly smart girl who learns quickly. She is fully potty trained and crate trained, walks beautifully on leash with minimal pulling, and knows sit, paw/shake, high five, kennel, and leave it.

Sunshine loves toys and fetch and has a playful side without needing to be entertained constantly. She enjoys playing with other dogs and has done well living with both dogs and cats in her foster home.

Sunshine's biggest challenge is simply confidence. She's a sensitive girl who can become overwhelmed by unfamiliar people, noises, or busy environments and needs someone who won't rush her into situations before she's ready.

But she's making progress! At Petco, Sunshine has started choosing to approach new people for affection on her own. She recently let someone new pet her, walked away, then came back and sat beside her for more. She's also approached another new person for pets-all on her own terms. Those may seem like little moments, but for Sunshine, they're huge.

She doesn't need to be the dog who loves every stranger the second she meets them. She just needs someone who will give her a little time to decide they're safe. Once you're one of her people, you get the affectionate, playful, loyal girl who wants nothing more than to be your little shadow.

If you're looking for a smart, loving best friend who will play with you, cuddle with you, and love you with her whole heart, Sunshine is ready to make your home a whole lot brighter.

Come meet Sunshine at Petco on Sundays from 2-4 PM!

Rebel Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy
At Rebel Animal Rescue, we believe in keeping adoption as simple and welcoming as possible. Instead of strict, one-size-fits-all requirements, we focus on open conversations with potential adopters. We want to learn about your home, lifestyle, and any challenges you might face, and work together on solutions that set you and your new pet up for success. The adoption process starts with a short application, which we review to make sure the match could be a good fit. From there, we arrange a meet-and-greet with your entire family—and for dog adoptions, your resident dogs too. If everyone feels good about the match, we encourage a one-week trial period. This gives you time to see how your new pet settles in. At the end of the week, we’ll finalize the adoption if it’s working out—or welcome the animal back if it’s not the right fit. Our goal is to find loving, lasting homes while keeping the process as stress-free as possible for both you and the animal.
