Sunny's Story

Meet Sunny - a bright, resilient young German Shepherd ready for his forever home

Sunny is a 1.5-year-old White German Shepherd with a heart as bright as his name. He’s already overcome a very difficult start to life, having experienced neglect and severe undernourishment before coming into rescue. Since being saved by Bella’s 2nd Chance and settling into foster care in Missoula, Sunny has truly blossomed.

Now safe and supported, Sunny is getting to be the puppy he was always meant to be. At a year and a half old, he is very much in his adolescent phase - curious, energetic, playful, and still learning. He loves fetch, chewing on bones, tossing toys into the air, romping with other dogs, and then dramatically collapsing on the couch when the fun is over. He is crate trained, house trained, and continuing to improve his leash manners as he matures.

Sunny is affectionate, social, and deeply bonded to his people. He enjoys being involved in daily life and thrives when he knows what’s expected of him. Like many young German Shepherds, he does best with structure and clear direction. If allowed to make his own decisions, he can be a little chaotic. When given consistency and leadership, he shines.

During a previous adoption transition, Sunny experienced a single resource-related conflict with another dog. Situations like this can happen with young shepherds still learning boundaries, especially during periods of change. In a stable, structured environment, Sunny has continued to show appropriate social behavior and does well with guidance.

Because of his age, intelligence, and classic shepherd traits, Sunny is best suited for an experienced German Shepherd owner - someone confident, calm, and consistent who understands that adolescence in working breeds takes time, patience, and follow-through.

Sunny would thrive in a home that offers:
* A securely fenced yard
* An active lifestyle
* Ongoing training and structure

He may have some seasonal or food-related sensitivities, which are easily managed with diet awareness and supplements if needed.

Sunny is not looking for perfection - he’s looking for partnership. He is loyal, intelligent, affectionate, and incredibly rewarding to work with. With the right guidance, he has all the makings of an exceptional companion.

If you’re ready to invest in a young shepherd with a big heart and even bigger potential, Sunny may be the dog you’ve been waiting for.

Bella's 2nd Chance's Adoption Policy
I have a questionnaire the potential adopter needs to fill out. A potential adopter filling out the form doesn't guarantee adoption. The adopter needs to permit a home check. If the adopter is from out of town or state, they must come here to meet the dog first, I won't send a dog because someone sees their picture and thinks they'll like them. I need to see their interaction (the human and the dog) because I know these dogs and I know their personalities. I need to see if it's going to be a good fit. This is the home these dogs will have for the rest of their lives, so I've got to be cognizant of the needs and concerns of these dogs.

Giving homeless dogs a 2nd Chance, my 1 acre fenced facility serves as a sanctuary for dogs on death row and dogs shut down in shelters to come and decompress, play with other dogs in playgroups, and learn to be a dog again.
