Summer's Story

Meet Summer
8 years old | ~68 lbs | Silver sweetheart
Summer is smart, compliant, and genuinely one of those dogs who just wants to be good. After a rough start and several months of recovery following her time in the shelter, she has blossomed into 68 pounds of super-soft fur, gentleness, and quiet devotion.
She is fully house-trained and will politely let you know she needs to go out by standing near the door. While we don't currently crate her, she appears to have been crate trained in the past. When left alone (or when she thinks she's alone), she may whine a bit but she is not destructive and settles once she knows her people are nearby.
Summer isn't interested in fetch or high-energy play. Her happy place is a good walk especially a sniffari. She enjoys about 1-2 miles a day, split into several shorter walks, and walks politely on leash. She'll patiently wait for her leash and stays calm even when exciting smells appear. We've been working on leash skills around squirrels, and she can now observe them without lunging. That said, she will chase squirrels or rabbits in a yard, so a home without cats or small animals is best.
With people, Summer is exceptionally gentle and polite. She has liked everyone she's met and shows excitement without jumping she may do a happy hop, but she keeps all four paws to herself. We don't have direct experience with young children, but her calm, respectful nature suggests she could do well with dog-savvy, respectful kids.
Summer has been calm and respectful when encountering other dogs on walks, particularly dogs her own size. She would likely do best in a home with medium-to-large dogs, if any.
Her favorite place? Wherever her people are. Summer will happily join you in your home office (as long as there's a comfy spot to rest) or curl up on the couch for Netflix nights. She's not a big fan of car rides and may pant during trips, but she gets in and out on her own and goes willingly making vet visits easy. She's especially motivated if there's a pup-cup involved.
As part of her medical care, Summer required daily ear cleanings, and she handled them like a champ. She came willingly, tolerated the discomfort, and never tried to avoid care proof of her trust and steady temperament.
She's also a quiet dog. In months of fostering, she's only barked a handful of times and when she does, it's just a couple of woofs before she's done.
Summer is very food-motivated, uses a slow feeder, and shows no food aggression at all. She takes direction well and clearly wants to please.
Best Home Match:
No cats or small animals
Medium-to-large dog companions (optional, but preferred)
People who enjoy walks, companionship, and a calm, affectionate senior
A home where she won't be left alone for long stretches without reassurance
Summer has done the hard part she survived, healed, and learned to trust again. Now she's ready for what she deserves most: a family who will love her for the rest of her life.
