Sully's Story

*** SOMEONE HAS OFFERED TO PAY HIS ADOPTION FEE FOR AN APPROVED ADOPTER.
? FINAL PLEA FOR SULLY ?
******NEEDS OUT OR COMMITMENT BY 10/17******

In August, Sully got a day break from the shelter and stayed with a family who had large dogs, cats, small dogs, and young children in the home. While his day foster noted he did poorly with the large dogs and cats, they said that he was perfectly fine being around small dogs and showed no signs of aggression towards them whatsoever during his stay. They also noted that he is an absolute ANGEL with young children, and would likely thrive in a home with babies or kids to love and protect. ??

Sully loves to play and is very photogenic. Despite the stress he has gone through here at the shelter, he has never lost faith or trust in humans. He loves every single person he meets! Sully also enjoys walks, does pretty well on the leash, and is even house-trained. He also sits pretty for treats. ??

We hate making these posts, especially for dogs like Sully who have been at the shelter for a long time. However, the longer a dog stays in the shelter environment, the more stressful it can become for them. The bottom line, no dog deserves to remain months or years in a shelter. ??

Sully came in late April of 2022. That makes 6 months here. He just showed up outside the shelter one day, at the time it was a mystery, but we later learned that his previous owners left him in a kennel outside to which he escaped and waited by the shelter door. This was supposed to be a safe place for Sully where he could find a new beginning, but it hasn’t turned out that way, unfortunately.
When Sully first arrived, he was wonderful with all of the dogs in the shelter and even had a few best friends. Over time, he succumbed to kennel stress and became aggressive towards other dogs. For Sully’s safety and for the safety of other dogs in the shelter, he has been housed separately from other dogs since late June. We believe that one day he may be okay with other dogs again, but that will not happen in the shelter. This is the only reason he is at risk, as the shelter is overcapacity and has no space to keep him separate from others any longer. ?

During his time at the shelter Sully has been vaccinated, dewormer, and treated for fleas/ticks. Upon adoption, all he will need is neutered and a rabies vaccine, both of these things are required.
Sully is located at the Brownsville Haywood County Animal Shelter in Brownsville, Tennessee. His adoption fee is being sponsored. We have no pull fee for reputable 501c3 rescue groups and can help arrange transport. Please share Sully to help him find his forever home or a rescue.
