Sugar's Story
Sugar is a ~4-year-old poodle mix, about 5.1kg (11 lbs) of small, slightly wiggly, fits perfectly in your lap but also somehow takes-up-the-whole-bed energy. She’s healthy, up to date on vaccines, and will be spayed in mid-April, ready to head home shortly after.

Sugar came into care as a guardian surrender. She’s a lovely dog who is happiest in a home that matches her gentle nature. She would do best in a quieter household with one or two people who enjoy walks, people-watching, tossing stuffies, and cozy evenings on the couch.

She’s currently living with another foster dog and absolutely lights up with a canine companion. A home with another small, playful dog would be ideal. She has been around larger dogs and can do well, but will need slow introductions as she can be unsure at first and doesn’t always pick up on early requests for space.

She has met two cats without concern, but she will chase squirrels and rabbits, so she may not be a good match for cats who are likely to run. A calm, dog-savvy cat would be the best fit.

Sugar is affectionate and playful, with a bit of puppy-like enthusiasm for cuddles and toys. With people, she’s a mix of “instant best friend” and “give me a minute,” and appreciates having her space respected.

She walks nicely on leash and prefers to pass other dogs with space rather than stopping to say hello. She is housetrained and sleeps soundly through the night. She has had some urination when frightened, particularly around young children or unwanted handling, but this has not been seen during her time in foster care.

Sugar is looking for a home without young children, where her boundaries will be understood and respected.

Sugar’s wish list

A calm, quiet home (no young children)

Another small dog who enjoys play and companionship

Guardians who love walks, snacks, and snuggles

A home where sharing the bed is part of the deal

Sugar is a special little dog who just needs the right environment to shine. In the right home, she’s going to be an incredible companion.

If you think you might be Sugar’s person, we’d love to hear from you. Sugar is being fostered in London, ON.
