Sugar's Story
We’re bringing you our sweetest addition yet — meet Sugar! Sugar is a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever who is looking for stability, consistency, and a loving forever home. She originally came from a “breeder” with the intention of becoming a bird dog, but due to her lighter bite strength, she wasn’t the right fit. Since then, Sugar has been in multiple homes, and we are determined to find the one that will finally give her everything she needs and deserves.

Although Sugar can be friendly with dogs on her daily adventures and while at structured daycare, she must be the only pet in her home. Sugar has a history of conflict with other dogs she has lived with, and without strict management she can make poor choices. Instead of a life where she needs to be constantly monitored or micromanaged, Sugar deserves a home where she can relax, have fun, and be her goofy, lovable self.

Sugar is also a resource guarder, something her new family will need to be mindful of and continue working on. This has contributed to her past issues with other dogs, but with humans, her training has made the behavior very manageable. She absolutely LOVES fetch — it’s her favorite thing in the world — and we use structured fetch as a way to help her manage impulses and practice skills. Sugar can also become a bit mouthy when she is overstimulated or overly excited, but with boundaries and consistency, these behaviors are very manageable.

By now it’s clear: Sugar thrives with structure, stability, and clear boundaries. With them, she shines. Without them, she struggles to make good choices. But with the right family, she has endless potential.

What Sugar is ready to bring to her new family:
- Fully off-leash trained
- Fully e-collar trained
- Completed board-and-train with balanced trainers
- A wonderful, loyal human companion
- A classic Lab spirit — she loves fetch and swimming!

Sugar would do well in a home with adults or families with children 12+. She adores people and is always excited to show off her favorite ball. She would be happiest with a family who enjoys the outdoors — trips to the cottage, swimming, or even a backyard pool would make her dreams come true.

She has excellent crate manners and is great both on-leash and off-leash. Sugar is looking for a forever adventure buddy and a family committed to maintaining her training and giving her the structure she thrives on. We can’t wait to help this sweet girl find her perfect match!

Please note: Although Sugar is a beautiful and loving dog, it is not safe for her, other animals, or her humans to place her in a home with other pets. This is a firm requirement for Sugar’s wellbeing and something we will not compromise on.
