If you are interested in meeting him please call 913-321-1445 or email petadoptions@kckpd.org to schedule your appointment.<br/><br/>Meet STORM! <br/><br/>Storm is a quiet, laid-back guy who isn't looking to be the life of the party — and he's perfectly happy that way. He's more of a hang out with you and enjoy the peaceful life kind of dog. <br/><br/>We rescued Storm from a hoarding situation where 30 dogs had been abandoned in a house after the tenants moved out. We placed him in a foster home and he's doing so well there.<br/><br/>Once Storm learns the routine and knows what to expect, he settles in beautifully. He currently lives with two senior dogs and does great peacefully coexisting with them. He waits patiently for his turn on walks and for treats, takes treats gently, and definitely enjoys his share of the pets — belly rubs included! <br/><br/>At home, Storm is pretty chill. He free roams without being destructive, enjoys keeping an eye on things from his favorite spot, and would thrive with a predictable routine, a fenced yard, and another calm, polite dog.<br/><br/>Storm does need a little time to trust new people. He can be wary of strangers and isn't the kind of dog who will walk into a busy adoption event and immediately make friends. His perfect person will understand that relationships take a little time. A few visits, some treats, and a little patience will go a long way with this guy. <br/><br/>We did a Wisdom Panel DNA test on Storm and included his breed mix in the photos. He's a mix of a mix of a mix! <br/><br/>Storm has an MDR1 gene variant, which is important for his future veterinarian to know because certain medications can affect him differently. We copied information from his Wisdom Panel results below so you can learn more about his MDR1 variant.<br/><br/>Storm may not be your Starbucks-patio, life-of-the-party kind of guy — but for someone looking for a calm companion who's happiest with his people, his routine, and his own little world, he could be exactly the right dog. <br/><br/>Storm is 5 years old and weighs about 61 lbs. <br/><br/><br/><br/>MDR1 Medication Sensitivity<br/><br/>The MDRI gene variant causes a defect to a drug pumping protein that plays an important role in limiting drug absorption and distribution (particularly to the brain). Dogs with the MDR1 variant may have severe adverse reactions to some commonly used medications.<br/><br/>Storm has 1 copy of this variant for this condition.<br/><br/>What it Means for Storm<br/>Storm has one copy of the MDR1 Medication Sensitivity variant and will likely have an altered response to certain medications. Dogs with the MDR1 variant are slower to eliminate certain medications from their body and can suffer side effects when exposed to these medications, so it is important that the results of this test are taken into consideration when medical treatment is needed for Storm.<br/><br/>Adverse reactions may include prolonged sedation, disorientation, tremors, seizures or death.<br/><br/>For dogs with the MDR1 variant it is important to be aware of medications which may result in an adverse reaction. These include: Acepromazine, Afoxolaner, Apomorphine, Butorphanol, Cyclosporin, Doxorubicin, Doramectin, Emodepside, Erythromycin, Fluralaner, Grapiprant, Ivermectin, Loperamide, Maropitant, Milbemycin...<br/><br/><br/><br/>ADOPTING A DOG<br/>Our dogs have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and tested for heartworms (if 7 months or older).<br/><br/>If you have a dog or children we ask that you bring them with you to meet our dogs to make sure it is a good match.<br/><br/>We are open for meet and greet adoptions at our shelter on weekends. No appointment is necessary for weekend adoptions. Our weekend hours vary and we also have satellite adoption events every weekend.
