Stewart's Story
Stewart is ready for retirement! This senior Chihuahua is 10-12 years old and weighs 9 pounds. Stewart is an independent pup. He can be quite fearful and needs time to warm up to new people. If you move too fast or force affection, he may nip or bare his teeth, but it’s a reaction rooted in fear and means he's asking for space.

When Stewart first arrived, he spent most of his time curled up in one of the open pens along the walls, quietly observing. But as he grew more comfortable, he began exploring more and sleeping in beds near the other dogs. He is now more confident approaching people and joining in on group activities like outside time and gathering in the kitchen for treats.

While he may never be a clingy dog, we know he'll continue making progress and opening up, given the space and time to do so.

Medically, Stewart is blind in his right eye and has limited vision in his left. He was recently neutered and had dental surgery. When he arrived, his liver values were elevated; they are now in the normal range.

Stewart is up-to-date on his vaccinations and recently had full blood work.

If you're interested in adopting Stewart, please submit an application at vintagepetrescue.org/adopt
