Meet STEVIE! He is an incredible survivor whose heart stayed soft even after life was not.<br/><br/>STEVIE was found in a ditch in terrible condition and had endured cruelty no animal should ever experience. As a result of what was done to him, STEVIE is blind.<br/><br/>And yet, STEVIE's spirit is nothing short of amazing.<br/><br/>STEVIE healed, gained weight, and blossomed into an affectionate, joyful dog who absolutely loves people. He is crate trained, always clean at night, and does best with structure, routine, and an attentive handler who helps him feel confident as he navigates the world.<br/><br/>STEVIE walks especially well on leash and will even run with you if he is familiar with the surroundings. His trust is amazing. He cannot see where he is going, but once he believes in you, he is willing to move forward anyway.<br/><br/>STEVIE meets other dogs carefully on leash in the yard and enjoys most calm, friendly dogs he meets. We do not let him meet rowdy dogs who may jump on him. A calm canine companion could be possible.<br/><br/>Because STEVIE is blind, his excitement can be intense when he meets new people or greets someone he loves. He can become very vocal and mouthy at first, not from meanness, but because his happiness gets ahead of him and he cannot fully process the moment until he settles. Once that first burst passes, he becomes the sweet, affectionate dog we know and love.<br/><br/>STEVIE is mostly an affection and treats kind of dog. He loves slobbery kisses with his caretakers, front-leg hugs, daily walks, and being close to people he trusts.<br/><br/>Because of his intensity during greetings, STEVIE needs an adult-only home with someone calm, confident, and understanding.<br/><br/>STEVIE has already lived through the worst of people.
