Stevie's Story

Meet Stevie! He may be a tiny 8-pound poodle mix, but he has a big personality and plenty of spunk! His limited vision doesn't stop him from enjoying life. He loves being outside, exploring the yard, going for walks, and taking in all the interesting smells around him.

Because Stevie is partially blind, he needs a little extra consideration when meeting people and moving through his surroundings. He can be startled if someone approaches him without warning, so simply talking to him as you come near lets him know you're there and helps him feel safe. Slow introductions and a predictable routine are important as he gets to know his new surroundings and his people.

Stevie is also quite the conversationalist! If the house gets too quiet for too long, you may hear him talking to you because he wants to know where his people are. He loves being near his humans and is happiest when he knows they're close by. When you're busy, though, Stevie is perfectly content to curl up for a nap in a sunny spot, beside you, in his cozy bed, or in his crate.

Because of his partial blindness and his need for gentle, predictable interactions, Stevie would likely do best in a home without young children. Young children can move quickly and unpredictably, which may startle him and make it difficult for him to feel secure.

The good news - Stevie is house trained and crate trained! Once he learns your routine and knows he can trust you, he settles into life beautifully.

If you're looking for a little dog with a big personality who will happily keep you company, Stevie just might be your guy.

Once we receive your application an adoption counselor will take a look and reach out with any questions. The team will check personal, vet references and check with your landlord if applicable. Your adoption counselor will then set up a time to talk with you and your family (or anyone else involved in the adoption process in your home). This call is a good time to ask any questions you have. Once your application is approved, you will be connected with the foster of the PIP(s) you are interested in. From start to finish, this process can take anywhere from a few days to over a week (so please be patient!). If everything goes well and you and the foster agree that the PIP you want to adopt is a good fit, we will then finalize the adoption.

Our Mission
PIPs key focus is dogs with special or medical needs (who we call Pip-abled), however, we have many non-PIP-abled dogs too! We made it easy to decipher PIP-abled verses non-PIP-able; simply look at each dogs picture and bio. The Pioneers had a vision to take in the most urgent rescues no one else could which includes p...
