Stellaluna's Story

Stellaluna is a sweet, playful 6 month old terrier / shepherd mix that weighs 27 lbs. She is estimated to be between 50-55 lbs when she is fully grown. This playful, silly girl loves nothing more than her humans and showering them with affection. She is such a fun-loving, outgoing, and endlessly entertaining dog and she makes her foster family laugh every day. She is always showing off her silly side when she is working on chewing on her chew toys and bones. She is very animated and exaggerated with her facial expressions so it's entertaining in itself to watch her entertain herself. She is really smart and loves to engage in training activities, mainly because she loves snacks. As soon as she sees a treat, all her focus is on her human. She's also very curious and loves to explore the world around her. She's always up for a fun adventure as long as she's with her family, so if you want to go hiking in the outdoors, hang out at the river, or explore nature trails, Stellaluna is always up for joining along. She is her foster mom's sidekick as she works from home, and you can always find Stellaluna curled up on a dog bed next to her desk as she works. Whether she's lounging around on the couch playing with her toys, exploring nature trails, or just taking a quick trip in the car to do some errands around town, she is always happy to keep you company. She's not a stage five clinger though and she is happy to keep herself busy. She loves to play with her toys, sunbathe in the backyard, or chase bugs flying through the air. With her perfect mix of playful energy and laid-back charm, Stellaluna is ready to be your cuddle buddy, your adventure partner, and your daily source of laughter.

Stellaluna is medium energy, so she is pretty mellow with short bursts of energy that are quickly burned with short exercise and play sessions. She loves to play in the backyard with her doggy friends and engage in some games with her humans, like tug-o-war and fetch. She also enjoys going on short leisurely walks around the neighborhood, going on car rides, and just hanging out with her human. She's a quick learner and is a pro at doggy puzzle games and other mental stimulation toys that involve dog treats hidden inside. On rainy days when she can't spend much time running around to burn her energy, just give her some puzzle games and she will stay busy working on those for hours. Give this girl a "tough chewer" Bark Box subscription and a toy box full of squeaky toys, and she will be the happiest girl in the world. Her favorite thing of all though is chasing bugs crawling through the grass and flying through the air. She is very good at self entertaining herself when her human is busy at home, and will just curl up on her dog bed with some of her favorite toys or a bully stick until its time for cuddles or outside adventures.

Stellaluna is kid, cat, and dog friendly. She would do well with kids of all ages as she loves to be cuddled and loved on. She loves to curl up next to the younger child in her foster home and get belly rubs until she falls asleep, and has been learning how to play fetch and bring back the ball too. Since she is very sweet and affectionate, but also super playful, she would do great with a family with kids who want a fun-loving pup to play and snuggle with. She is currently in a foster home with other dogs and loves them all. Because she's a goofy puppy that doesn't realize her size, she does best with the older, larger dogs that she can run around and play with. The older, smaller dogs aren't fond of her and her puppy antics, so she usually steers clear of them to avoid being corrected by the grouchy senior chihuahua. She would love to have another larger, playful dog in her forever home, but would also be perfectly happy being a solo dog in the home so that she gets to have plenty of playtime and cuddle sessions with her humans. She has been around cats and leaves them alone. All it took was one swat to put her in her place when she was annoying them with her puppy antics, and she learned her lesson and avoids them now. If there are kitties in the home, it is recommended that they be dog-savvy because she is a goofy, playful puppy and she will probably annoy a cat who is not acclimated to being around dogs yet. Slow intros are a must and keeping an area where the cats can go to when they do not want to interact with her is recommended.

Stellaluna is potty trained, kennel trained, and leash trained. She will start pacing at the back door when she needs to go outside to potty. She can sleep through the night without a potty break, too. She will need frequent breaks to get on a good routine once she is in her forever home. After she settles in, she will stay on her routine with a set schedule. She sleeps on a dog bed or the couch at night in her foster home. She does use the kennel when her fosters leave the home and just needs a yummy treat or long lasting chew bone to happily go inside. She would love to sleep in bed with her human at night so she can get in extra cuddles while she sleeps, but would also be perfectly happy snuggling up on a dog bed by her human's bed too. She walks well on a leash once she gets going, but can pull initially because she is so excited to go. She is easily redirected with verbal commands and/or treats though. She feeds off the energy of the person holding the leash, so if you walk confidently with her, she will be confident as she walks.

Stellaluna's ideal home would be a house with a fenced in backyard to run around and play in. She would do fine living in apartment, condo or townhouse as long as her human works from home or works a hybrid schedule so she can get a few short walks and potty breaks throughout the day. No public dog parks for this sweet girl (who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways), but she would love to have fun adventures at Sniff Spots occasionally for playtime and exercise if she does live in an apartment, condo, or townhouse without a private fenced-in yard. She would love to have a family with kids of all ages for her to play and cuddle with. She really just loves to be with her humans and wants to spend as much time as possible cuddling and playing with them. She would also do well with another dog in the home that is playful and around her size or larger. She would also do well with dog-friendly cats that are comfortable around dogs and will tolerate her goofy puppy antics. Stellaluna is such an amazingly sweet, super silly, and fun-loving dog that would make an absolutely perfect companion for a family that wants a dog they can get endless laughs and cuddles from.

Stellaluna is in a foster home in Central Texas. She can be adopted and transported to the following cities/states: www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/transport-locations

This is a courtesy post for LAPP Dog Rescue. If you are interested in adopting Stellaluna, please fill out an application at: www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application.

TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance and it being unfair for the dogs who are not adopted to have to make the trip back.

Please be advised that applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we do have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so please be mindful that when you submit an application that it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved/completed. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL description on PetFinder describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets.

The cost to adopt is $630 - $650, which includes $400 adoption fee and a $230 - $250 transport fee. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, spay procedure, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, plus any necessary vet care while in the rescue's care.
