Stella's Story
Meet Stella, a beautiful, and oh so soft, 2-year-old black Labrador Retriever / Newfoundland mix looking for her loving forever home. Stella has been raised in our service dog training program and has learned many of her basic skills: come, sit, down, wait, here (hand target), off, let’s go, kennel. She is crate trained and travels well. She’s a big girl at 75 lbs, but full of love.

Stella is not suitable to remain in our program due to easy arousal/excitability and prey drive.

Stella is super sweet, friendly, energetic, playful, affectionate, and excitable at times. She loves to be near her people. She’s easy to have around the home with minimal management, settles nicely, and can entertain herself with her toys, and seems to enjoy the water. She likes to cuddle and will try to climb right into your lap if allowed.

Stella walks pretty nicely on a leash. She does like to sniff and can pull towards something of interest, and she is a strong girl. She will need an experienced and physically capable handler.

Stella has displayed some prey drive, showing interest in cats, rabbits, squirrels. She will need a home with no pet cats or other small critters.

She's going to require a good-sized, securely fenced yard where she can be off-leash to run, play, and get the wild willies, but also ensure she will not be able to wander off after something that catches her attention.

Stella’s dog skills are a bit intense and physical, and she can be pushy with other dogs. To consider any other dog in the home, it must be of similar size, age, and energy level. Stella may be best suited for being the only dog in the home with a family that lavishes her with their attention. Hopefully, finding her an appropriate doggy friend for some monitored play dates.

Stella can be vocal if she hears or sees something, or if other dogs are barking.

Stella will be best suited for a home with no young children. Children over the age of 12 with prior dog experience will be considered.

She is happiest when she is being active with her people. With her interest in sniffing, she would likely enjoy a dog sport such as NoseWork. She’d like an active family that will provide her with plenty of mental stimulation as well as physical.

Stella’s adoption fee is $1,500. If you think that she sounds like a good match for you, please send an email to info@summitdogs.org (no phone calls, please) to request an application or ask questions.
