Star's Story

Allow me to introduce myself: I am sweet Star. My journey began in a very high-kill shelter in Alabama, where I was rescued. My mother was there too, but sadly, she was euthanized. We were both used for breeding, and that was the extent of our existence. When we were no longer of use, we were unceremoniously dumped at the shelter.
Thankfully, fate intervened. A foster home was found for me, and Dakota and Casey Rescue Inc. swiftly pulled me out of that dire situation. My life has not been easy, but I am resilient. I’ve been fully vetted, vaccinated, and spayed. Let me share a bit about myself:
I am guessed to be a 6 year-old, 60 pound, German Shepherd. I’m sociable with other dogs and get along with my foster-sister, Dutchy. Although sometimes my excitement of seeing the neighbors’ dogs can cause me to redirect my energy toward Dutchy and we end up having quick spats. I can likely work through this with structure and training. I have not been cat-tested but I can be if you’d like.
I love chasing wild bunnies in the yard, even though they always manage to outpace me! I’m gently playful and occasionally get the zoomies. Rolling around on the grass is one of my favorite pastimes. A fenced-in backyard would be great for me to be able to play around in. Indoors, I’m convinced I’m a lap dog, and I adore snuggles and lots of love.
I’m sensitive to your tone and tend to be submissive and slightly shy, but not fearful. I know basic commands like “sit” and walk well on a leash. I’m also working on “stay,” “shake/paw,” and “lay.” Treats motivate me!
My ideal home would be a family setting, with someone who loves and understands my breed. Currently, I’m being fostered in Melbourne, Florida. If you’re nearby, we can arrange a meet-and-greet. Alternatively, I can be transported to other states for the right-fitting home. If you’re interested in giving me a forever home, please reach out to my rescue at: ShirleyVestal@comcast.net.
Let’s create beautiful memories together!
