I’m affectionate, silly, playful, and so much fun! I might be just a little cautious and shy until I get to know you, but once you’re the person who I trust and feel safe with, I will love you deeply with everything I’ve got. I’ll be your constant companion and loyal friend. I’ve been through a lot of change and instability in my life, but I try my best not to let that get me down. Once we’re family, I hope that you’ll wonder what you ever did without me in your life. Yep, I’m that special. And I can’t wait to be your dog. That’s all I’ve ever wanted...to belong and to be loved.

I’m an adorable, 2-year-old, 49-pound Black Lab mix, with expressive ears, gentle eyes, the sweetest smile, and a lovely, delightful personality. I’m already housebroken and crate trained, and I even know how to use a dog door. How about that? I came to Wayside when my previous owner could no longer take care of me. I miss her. My life hasn’t been easy, though, and coming to the big shelter felt scary and confusing. I still remember trembling in my kennel those first few days. Then the best thing ever happened, when I was able to spend several weeks in a loving foster home. Ah, I was finally able to relax and just be myself. Those were the best weeks of my life. I’m back at the shelter now, where it will be easy for you to find me. I feel rested and rejuvenated and ready to start my next chapter of life.

Despite my insecurities in life, I am resilient and brave. While I cautiously approach new situations and experiences, I’ve proven that I am adaptable, and I made incredible progress during my time in foster. I was perfectly content to be a homebody, and I learned so much about the routines and luxuries of a real home. Things that once worried me, like the dishwasher, garage door, or TV, I began to take in stride. I sometimes felt restless and fidgety at the start, too, but with time and patience, I was able to relax and chill. The dog door even startled me at first, but not for long! I was a pro going in and out. I loved simply being a house dog.

I grew more content and comfortable with each passing day in my foster home. I felt safe and happy in my crate. I quietly slept there at night and when no one was home, up to about 4 hours a day. I’m very well behaved in the house. On the occasion when I picked up something that wasn’t mine, it was easy to redirect me with one of my toys, as I learned which things were mine. I quickly fell in love with Foster Mom, eager to jump up on her lap for kisses and cuddles, while still respecting her boundaries. It took an extra couple days with Foster Dad, as I watched and analyzed his movements. I gave him a quick bark when he walked in the door after being gone a while, but we became great buddies, and I liked to keep him company as he had coffee and prepared for the day. Feeling like part of a family is something I’ll never take for granted. I got so excited when they came home, happily greeting them with a jump, and then sweet interactions, once I calmed down. I did well with visitors, too, although I tend to warm up to women quicker than men.

I am so fast, and I love to run! It’s a beautiful sight to see me run at full speed without a care in the world, leaping and bounding in pure joy. I invite other dogs to join in the fun, but I always win the chase. I love other dogs, and I will need to go home with another friendly dog to teach me the ropes. I enjoyed some light play with Foster Mom’s dogs, but I was also perfectly content to just hang out with them doing nothing at all. I was excellent at sharing with them too, whether it was cleaning up leftovers or playing with toys or simply sharing attention or space. We got along fabulously. I miss them! We had a big fenced yard to play in, which I loved so much. I’ll need a securely fenced yard in my new home as well. Because I’m a homebody, I don’t feel the need for adventures or even long walks. Strange noises startle me, and I feel overwhelmed at times when out walking. I’ll be happy to practice my leash skills with you in a quiet, familiar, low-traffic area, especially when I have another dog to walk with.

I’m a sensitive soul, so please don’t ever be harsh with me. I will respond and thrive in a positive and calm environment with plenty of praise and encouragement when I’m a good girl as I learn what’s expected of me. I’m gentle with all animals, including cats, wildlife, and farm animals. I loved the cat in my foster home, engaging her in play at times and even letting her crawl over me as I napped. We were best buddies. I am accepting, quiet, and calm with chickens and goats, and I don’t bother wildlife at all. I simply have a gentle, sweet-natured style that is so easy to love. I did well with the kids over 5 that I lived with in my first home. Still, quick movements and loud noises are scary to me, so I will need a home with kids over the age of 6 and I’ll need to meet any kids under the age of 10 before we go home together, to make sure we’re a good match. Mostly, I’m looking for a home with kind and caring people who will understand my qui
