Squash's Story
This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, November 1st from 12-3pm unless adopted prior to the event. To be considered for adoption, pls submit an application in advance.

Adoption fee: $800
Meet Squash!

4 months old • 8 lbs • Maltipoo • Nonshedding coat

Squash may be small, but his heart is enormous — and so is his journey. He and his buddies Acorn and Delicata were living outdoors when their former owner tried to surrender them to the shelter. Luckily DPS stepped in, and Squash is now thriving in a loving foster home where his sweet personality shines brighter every day.

From the moment he wakes up, Squash is pure joy. He greets the morning with a happy tail wag and an eager little sit — complete with irresistible puppy dog eyes — as he waits for breakfast. He knows exactly where his mealtime spot is and politely respects the other dogs’ space. During the day, he follows his people from room to room, naps in the sunshine, or snuggles up on the couch. He’s just as content playing with his foster siblings (a French Bulldog and a Dogue de Bordeaux mix) as he is curling up for a cozy nap.

When Squash first arrived, he was shy and unsure of the world — he mostly wanted to be held. But with gentle care and time, he’s blossomed into a confident, cuddly, and wonderfully resilient pup. He now greets everyone with tail wags, happily accepts snuggles from anyone, and even shows off his “sit” for treats. He’s smart, food-motivated, and learning recall beautifully.

Squash loves kids — especially the three in his foster home, who think he’s a living stuffed animal. He’s also good with cats and has excellent dog manners now that he’s learned proper greetings.

He’s still mastering crate time (he’ll cry a little before settling), but he sleeps soundly through the night on the bed and is well on his way to being house-trained with regular outdoor breaks. He’s great in the car and quickly turns every ride into naptime.

Squash has the perfect balance of puppy playfulness and easygoing charm. He’ll give a happy pounce when he wants to play, then relax contentedly by your side. His nonshedding coat and affectionate, adaptable personality make him a wonderful companion for almost any household — with kids, dogs, or even as a solo snuggle bug.

If you’re looking for a loving little friend who will melt into your arms and brighten every day with his gentle joy, Squash is your guy.
