Spike's Story

Dog Name: Spike

Breed: Mixed

Sex: Male

Age: 1+ year

Weight: 50/60lbs

Medical Needs: none

Housebroken: yes, working on bell training

Crate trained: Yes, Crate door stays open all day and he finds it as his safe zone as well

Good in the car: in a crate, yes. Okay on small rides but will get sick from being anxious on long rides

Good on a leash: yes but is still very nervous with loud noises and commotion

Energy level: Medium. Runs around with his foster siblings outside. Inside, he's more of a controlled play. Huge cuddler.

Need a fenced in yard: No, but would need to be on a leash because he is flighty still. Would highly benefit from a fenced yard though

Dog Friendly: Yes, but takes a little time to warm up

If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No, he's a big cuddler and would be ok being the only spoiled dog in the house

Cat Friendly? Yes. He sniffs and moves on.

Kid Friendly: would recommend older, non rambunctious children.

If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? 10+, he likes calm and quiet

Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Spike is a nervous guy so he just needs a little patience and love. He prefers for anyone new to be on his level and then he will melt in your arms. Once he's warmed up he will not leave you alone. Spike prefers calm environments and his weakness is belly rubs. He's a gentleman, he doesn't jump or snatch treats or toys. He would make a great walking/hiking or Netflix and chill companion. One day, he will meet the right person/people that will allow him to relax and trust in people more.

Fosters Location: Millsboro, DE

Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application(if you already have an approved application on file email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your app
