Spike

You may remember Spike who came to North Paw after a long stay at Penfield Animal Control. He is deaf, with some residual hearing for high pitched sounds, and has some age related growths that our vet is not concerned about. Other than that he's a healthy boy who is working hard in his foster home to lose his extra weight. He’s been living it up with a foster mom and foster siblings both canine and feline since coming to North Paw and now that he’s had some time to get used to living the good life he’s looking for a forever home where he can spend his golden years.<br/><br/>Spike’s foster mom says he’s a pleasure to have around, for her, her dog, and her cat. He’s also been lovely with her daughter and three grandchildren. This is a dog with a lot of love to give! He can be a bit skittish at first when meeting new people or animals, which is understandable given his recent past, but given some patience and understanding he’s ready to love on his new friends. <br/><br/>Spike loves being outside, whether rolling in some grass or having a nice nap in the sun on the deck. He’s very good about letting his foster mom know when he needs to go out, especially bright and early in the morning. He also enjoys going for leashed walks.<br/><br/>When he’s inside Spike loves blankets more than any toys. He finds them comforting (maybe he just really loves being cozy and warm) and excellent for sleeping with.<br/><br/>Spike has not been crated in his foster home. When necessary gates have been used but Spike is not a fan. They probably remind of him of being in the shelter. He wants to be where the people or dogs are, not shut away from everyone. He wants love, and attention, and he needs a home where everyone understands that he will need patience, understanding, and reassurance that he is safe and loved now.<br/><br/>Spike's adoption fee is $200!
