Spike

Spike is another one of the dogs who came to us from the heartbreaking neglect situation involving multiple dogs being kept outside in cages. They had little to no food, were covered in fleas and ticks, and were drinking from mud puddles. A game warden discovered the dogs and reached out to us for help.<br/><br/>Despite his rough start, Spike is one of the more outgoing dogs from the group! He has a fun, playful personality and is always happy to interact with people. He loves to play, and if you have treats, you will definitely have his attention! His love of food should also make treats a great tool for continuing his training.<br/><br/>We are continuing to work with Spike around other dogs, and he is making progress. Many of the males in this group arrived intact and had been forced to compete with one another for food and other resources. Because of that, some learned to be defensive around other dogs. Now that Spike has been neutered and is learning that food is always available, he is getting better around the other dogs. We will continue working with him and recommend slow, appropriate introductions to any dogs in a potential new home.<br/><br/>Spike currently weighs about 37 pounds, making him a great medium-sized companion. He has been neutered and is receiving all of the care he needs to get ready for the next chapter of his life.<br/><br/>We aren't exactly sure what breed Spike and the rest of the group are. Because of their history of originally coming from North Carolina, our best guess is that they may be Mountain Cur mixes.<br/><br/>Spike has already left his old life behind. Now instead of fighting to survive, he gets to play, enjoy treats, and learn that people can be pretty great. All that's missing is a family to call his own.
