Spike's Story

2.5 years old 75 lb Pit Bull Mix

Spike is a big-hearted boy with an equally big personality - and he's looking for someone experienced who can help him continue the progress he's already making. He's currently one of our behavior-focus dogs, and while he absolutely adores the people he knows well, meeting new people can feel overwhelming for him. Because of this, he needs a thoughtful, confident adopter who understands canine body language and is willing to continue his training plan.

Spike has been professionally evaluated at Zoom Room and works weekly with Alexa from Pumpkin Paws Dog Training. Both trainers see tremendous potential in him. He's very food-motivated, has been excelling with his muzzle-training, and is steadily learning to trust and warm up to more people. With structure, patience, and consistency, Spike truly shines.

Spike will do best in a child-free home as the only pet, where his person can give him calm guidance and help him feel safe. He thrives with routine and responds beautifully to clear expectations.

For those he trusts, Spike is the sweetest, goofiest, most affectionate companion - the kind of dog who makes you laugh every single day. Despite his challenges, he's a staff favorite at the rescue, and whoever adopts him will gain an incredibly loyal, loving friend.

Toledo Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy
Steps to Take: Please visit the Rescue website to see all of our available animals If you see an animal you are interested in please submit an adoption application. Once we have received that application we will review it, and call you to schedule an appointment to come and meet our animals! On the application, if you do not have a veterinarian reference, please consider one you may be using. Adoption visits may or may not happen on the same day. Adoption approval may take a few days. On the Day of Adoption: If you are adopting a dog, please bring a carrier and/or leash and collar with you to pick up your pet. If you are adopting a cat, you will be required to bring a carrier. Animals are not deemed adopted until all paperwork has been processed, fees paid, and the animal is released. Adoption Fees Cover the Following: Up to date shots/vaccinations for the pet's age Deworming Heartworm test (dogs over 6 months) FIV/FeLeuk test (cats) Petlink Microchip Spay/Neuter Includes free vet exam within 2 weeks after adoption. All animals are spayed or neutered before adoption. Please note there’s no such thing as a “free pet.” Such medical procedures performed by the Rescue would cost well over $300 at an animal hospital.
