Spike's Story

Meet Spike!
Spike had a rough life before he was rescued. Due to those past circumstances Spike is fearful of new people. It can be hard to tell through all his growling and snarling, but all Spike really wants is to be loved. His ‘aggression’ is 100% fear, which can be overcome with patience and the right person.
Spike does not like men or boys of any age. However, he does warm up to most women with time. He’s also a one person kind of dog. So if you’re a single woman with no family or friends and no plans to get any, You might be perfect for Spike!!
Here’s what to expect:
Day 1-30ish - Spike will hide from you day and night. When you make eye contact he will growl and snarel. Even when you bring him food and treats
Day 31 - 45 Spike will start growling less and will start coming up to you, poke you in the leg with his nose, then run away. Try not to make eye too much eye contact.
Day 45 - 55 Spike will start to snuggle with you under the covers at HIS leisure. Do not touch YET!!!
Day 55 - 70 Spike will start to take treats from your hand then run away. Eye contact is ok-ish. Little scratches on his head are allowed.
Day 70 - 90 Spike will let you pick him up, but will scream the whole way up. He will start to wag his tail when he sees you and when you come home. A few snuggles above the covers may happen.
Day 90 - if you can hang in through all that, he’s yours forever!!! At this point he will be running to you for hugs and kisses
If you’re up for this 90 day plan for unconditional love and companionship, apply for Spike today.
BONUS: Spike likes other dogs. And once you get through your 90 day Spike boot camp, he’s a pretty easygoing dog. Spike will spend most of his time take naps and snuggling in your lap.

Adopting a pet from SAVE Rescue Coalition is easy. There is a simple two page application on our website at www.saverescue.org Most dog adoptions are from $250.00 - $400.00. Cats are available for $125-150 Applications are evaluated to make the best match for your familiy and the animal you are interested in adopting. Most all of out adoptable animals are living in homes with foster families, so we have a good idea what their temperaments are like in a home situation. We hope that you will look at our adoptable animals and find a forever friend, But whether it is our animal or from another shelter or rescue group, ADOPT DON"T SHOP. Check out the events calendar on Petfinder or on our website at www.saverescue.org/events We have adoption events most weekends somewhere in the Houston Metro area. Come out to one of our events and meet animals from SAVE and from other rescue groups from around Houston.
