Sparky

Sparky arrived at his foster home recovering from repeated skin infections and in a sad and nervous state. Through some observation, trial and error, we found a grain-free food that seems to work well for him. His groomer suggested that Sparky may enjoy some exercises in nose-work. If someone wants to work with Sparky on nose-work and/or maybe agility, he may be the dog for you. Sparky likes chasing away any intruder that enters the fenced yard. He hates to be in a dog crate but likes time outside in the yard or on a short walk. We continue to introduce different types of toys and work with him on focus and commands. He has been well-behaved in the home. Sparky currently lives with a family of 3 adults and 2 cats.<br/>While Sparky would do well with older children as long as they respect his boundaries, he does not do well with the young children. I've never seen him bite (he has attempted to nip a couple of times but never actually made contact - once when we tried to trim his nails ourselves and once when I pushed his boundaries when he was in play mode), but he can get a bit growly and hyper-focused when playing. While I have had my friend's 10 year old around him on occasion and they do fine together, some children might be scared of how he can sometimes act when playing even though he is not, in my opinion, vicious by any means, just very vocal. I don't know if you believe in the doggy OCD, but we are pretty sure he has it when it comes to his toys. He will pick one that he wants to focus on and will cause quite the crying scene if it goes under the couch and he cannot retrieve it. He will also sometimes not pay attention to his need to go out and eat when he gets a new toy. We have had to take one toy away from him because he just gets so obsessive. But overall he is a very sweet boy. He's just a bit neurotic/quirky for lack of better terms. He has not had any accidents except when he got sick or when I waited way too long to let him out due to how exhausted I was at one point in time. He still doesn't love car rides, but has improved a bit.
