Southern's Story

Age: 3 years
Weight: 15lbs

Meet Southern (AKA Belle/Bella) is an absolute gem. She's a 3-year-old, 15 lb Chihuahua mix with a stocky build. Originally rescued from Texas, she had a litter of pups fairly recently.

She's a quiet dog, both playful and cuddly. She seems to feel that dog toys are beneath her and is more interested in playing, dancing, and rolling around with her human caregiver. She's an expert cuddler and prefers to be close by, following you from room to room just to see what you're up to. She's curious about city sounds, but doesn't like the motorized delivery scooters, especially when it gets dark, and the car lights zipping by make her a bit nervous. Still, she's adjusting and every walk is an adventure. She does best on quieter streets off of the avenues and will happily let you carry her in your arms/bag when it gets dicey; she enjoys being outside and at home equally and is content with both short and long walks. She is strong for such a little thing so when she wants to speed walk or run, you might feel some pull.

After never seeing steps before, she's bravely gotten over her fear of going down the five steps in front of our building. She'll probably do okay with staircases. She is house-trained and prefers to do her business in dry leaves (which is a challenge with the snow). She's learning "sit" and "stay" quite well.

She seems mostly indifferent to dogs so far, but did stop short to bark at a dog three times her size. She would do well with a family. She'd give kids a lot of joy and they would do the same for her. No doubt she was a good mom to her pups.

Southern (Belle/Bella) is full of love, affection, wags, and wiggles. If you're looking for a perfectly sized bundle of sweetness and joy, this is your girl.

INTERESTED IN ADOPTING?
To adopt Southern, apply on our website www.truenorthrescue.org/adopt and email adopt.truenorthrescue@gmail.com to follow up on your application.

PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL TO ASK IF HE/SHE IS AVAILABLE. IF THIS LISTING IS UP, THE DOG IS NOT ADOPTED YET.

Also, we have a very high volume of applications and we are all volunteers. We cannot respond to every application personally. Please make sure your application gives us a good picture of your family and the life you plan on providing a dog from our rescue. We choose a home based on the BEST FIT for EACH dog and approve on a dog by dog basis. Thank you!

True North Pet Rescue Mission's Adoption Policy
First Step: Submit Your Application True North does not issue blanket approvals, we consider the needs of each specific dog when reviewing applications. If you don't have a specific dog in mind when applying, please note this on your application so that we can keep this in mind when reviewing. We require home photos for all applicants, but can accept a video replacement. Please enter as much detail as possible on your application, this helps us better understand what you are looking for and how this relates to the needs of the dog you have applied for. For puppies under 12 weeks, we require a care plan. This includes a plan for when the dog will be left alone, as puppies younger than 12 weeks should not be left alone longer than 2-3 hours at a time. Please Note: Due to the high volume of applications we receive, it is not always possible to reply to everyone. If your application is approved, you can expect the following. Second Step: Application Review & Approval 1. If your application is approved, an email will be sent connecting you with the dog's current foster. At this time, you may schedule a mutually convenient time to meet. 2. After meeting, you have 24 hours to confirm if you would like to move forward with finalizing the adoption. After this, if we have not heard from you, we will begin scheduling other meets. 3. If you choose to finalize, we will issue an adoption contract via email. Once the signed agreement has been electronically returned along with the adoption fee (which will be disclosed prior to adopting), you will be all set to coordinate for pick-up with the foster! Adoption Fees: Our adoption fees are comparable to those found amongst other well-known rescues in the city. We only accept electronic payments for adoption fees.
