Sophie (german shep/lab)'s Story

Meet sweet Sophie, a 2.5-year-old German Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mix, who is spending each day learning the true meaning of love and safety now that she’s in the care of Home for Good. This gorgeous girl was rescued in Colleton County, South Carolina, and her first year of life wasn’t easy. You see, she came from a horrible hoarding situation where there were 20 plus dogs living in squalor outside with no human contact and thrown food every few days. But each day, she works hard to grow more confident, especially with the help of all her doggy friends.

When Sophie is allowed time to settle in, decompress, and feel safe, she really starts to come out of her shell. She is very shy with new people but is warming up to those around her, and she really lets her playful side out when she’s with other dogs. She’s still adjusting to more human companionships, but each day, she is growing more confident and learning that she is safe and loved now. She’s learning to walk on a leash but is still a bit inquisitive about all the smells and sights and sounds around her. She just needs time, patience, and stability. To be quite frank, Sophie is a "project dog" but for the kind, loving soul looking for a deserving dog to work with and grow with, she will be the right dog.

Sophie’s foster mom had this to say about this beautiful girl... “If you’re looking for a best friend for your dog, Sophie is your girl. She may never trust humans 100% after what she lived through, but every day she shows us more and more that she knows she’s safe and she won’t be hurt any more. She sleeps soundly in our bed cuddled up close and she’s the first dog to pop up in the morning and give my hand gentle licks while I scratch her head. She’s learning slowly that human touch can be loving, not hurtful, and this has led to a few belly rubs! She likes to spend more time around our family in the kitchen and food is the way to her heart. She is a puppy at heart and when not playing outside with her foster siblings, she takes out every single toy in the toy box during the day so she can have fun to her heart’s content! We are so proud of her growth and know she will be the best doggy sibling for the family that’s willing to let Sophie be Sophie. She may be a project, but she's so worth it.”

Sophie must be adopted into a home with another dog or two who can help her grow more confident and secure. She also gets along with cats! Sophie is a sweetheart who longs for a loving, patient home to nurture her and give her the life she deserves. She has been waiting for her forever family for a long time. Won’t you come meet Sophie and make her little dreams come true?

Sophie is spayed, up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, and microchipped.

**Please note: completing an "adoption inquiry" via Adopt-a-pet/Petfinder does not constitute an HFG Dog Rescue adoption application.
