SOPHIA's Story
Meet Sophia located in NYC

Sophia may be tiny, but this little girl has already fought harder for her life than most dogs ever will. At approximately 5 years old and just 10 lbs., this sweet Terrier mix has been through so much, and the fact that she’s here today is nothing short of remarkable.

A Good Samaritan found her and brought her to the shelter. By the time she arrived at her foster home, she was suffering from terrible pneumonia, and her lungs were in extremely poor condition. She was so sick that she needed weeks of antibiotics, bottle feeding, and eventually a feeding tube just to make sure she was receiving enough nutrition. There were serious concerns about whether this little girl would survive.

But Sophia wasn’t ready to give up. Through weeks of treatment, constant attention, and round-the-clock care, she kept fighting. Her determination to live was incredible, and slowly, this fragile little girl began getting stronger. After 3 months of love and dedicated care, Sophia has made an amazing recovery and is finally getting the chance to enjoy the life she fought so hard to keep.

Today, Sophia is a lively, curious, and incredibly smart little girl with plenty of energy. She loves going for walks, enjoys the company of other dogs and cats, and is highly food motivated, which makes her a wonderful candidate for reward-based training. She’s also housebroken, microchipped, spayed, and up to date on all her vaccinations.

Understandably, Sophia can be fearful when meeting new people. After everything she’s experienced, she needs a little time to feel safe and comfortable. But beneath that initial uncertainty is a little dog who desperately wants to be loved, cuddled, and reassured that she’s safe. She would do best with an experienced, patient adopter who understands the importance of gentle handling, positive reinforcement, and allowing her to build trust at her own pace.

Sophia fought so hard just to stay alive. Now she deserves the chance to experience everything that makes life worth living. A warm bed, gentle hands and a family who will love her without expecting her to be brave all at once. She’s already overcome so much. All she needs now is someone willing to give her the time, patience, and love she deserves.
