Snickers's Story

Snickers is a handsome young Chocolate Labrador Retriever approximately 14 months old. He is a sweet loving dog to be around. He is good with people and most other dogs. The exception is aggressive dogs. Cats and small animals are untested. He has been in the Powder Pals dog training program for 4 months and is now eligible to graduate and go to his forever home. He was previously surrendered to the La Grande Shelter and resided there for a number of months. Through his daily training he has transformed into a dog who knows 15 commands, and rarely jumps up or pulls, despite his youthful exuberance . He is leash trained and wears a martingale collar and harness. Please note, all his training has been done through positive reward only, making him both dislike force or punishment and rendering them ineffective methods. He is very treat motivated and given his intelligence, learns quickly.. He is also an energetic, athletic dog and will need 1-2 hours of daily exercise, including leash walking/jogging to detune and be the relaxed companion he has matured into. Being trained in a prison he is not trained to retrieve around gunfire. In fact, he prefers to chew on things he retrieves or play keep away relative to other labs we have trained. So hunters be aware. After living and working with men daily seven days a week he is now a dog who relishes living indoors with his person or family. He is also crate trained for times his person is gone. So if you are an active walker/jogger looking to bring a well trained dog into your life please consider Snickers. Speaking for New Hope for Eastern Oregon Animals and Blue Mountain Humane Association (La Grande Shelter), he has grown into a dog with special qualities.
