Smokey's Story

At 8 years-5 months old and 53lbs, Smokey might be considered a “senior,” but don’t let that number fool you—he’s still got a whole lot of puppy in him! This charming Pit Bull mix is equal parts playful goofball and easygoing best friend, and he’s looking for a family who’ll appreciate his unique mix of youthful energy and grown-up manners.

Smokey came to us with 51 other dogs after his previous caregiver could no longer provide proper care. Through it all, Smokey’s spirit never dimmed. He greets each day with a wagging tail, a happy grin, and a whole lot of love to give.

He recently completed heartworm treatment, so while he’s still on “light duty” for now, he’s eager to get back to more walks, snuggle time, and—let’s be honest—zoomies in the yard when the mood strikes. He knows "sit," takes treats like a true gentleman, and has done well with other dogs he's met at the shelter.

Smokey is a tidy guy who keeps his kennel clean, and he should adjust well to home routines with a little guidance and consistency. He adores people, does great with respectful kids, and would love to be your loyal shadow. Just one note: Smokey isn’t a fan of cats, so he’s looking for a feline-free home.

This sweet, silly, soulful guy is proof that age is just a number—and life is better when it includes belly rubs, treats, and unconditional love.

Smokey is neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested and current on all vaccinations, including rabies. He has been dewormed and started on flea/tick prevention.

To Apply for Adoption/Foster please copy and paste the following link:

https://orangecountyva.gov/158/Animal-Shelter
