Smokey's Story

Smokey is an almost 9-year-old, 53-lb Pit Bull mix who carries himself like a true gentleman. While his age technically places him in the senior category, Smokey still enjoys playtime, attention, and engaging with the world around him, balanced beautifully with the calm confidence of a dog who knows himself well.

Smokey came to us with 51 other dogs after his previous caregiver could no longer provide proper care. Through all that change, he has remained steady, affectionate, and quietly charming with the people he trusts. He greets each day with a wagging tail and a thoughtful, observant presence.

He was treated for heartworm disease several months ago and is doing well. Smokey enjoys leisurely walks, cozy downtime, and moments of play when the mood strikes. He knows “sit,” takes treats politely, keeps a clean kennel, and appreciates a predictable routine with clear expectations.

Smokey is selective with his relationships and is not a match for every home, which is perfectly okay. He requires a cat-free home and does best with careful introductions to other dogs. He can also be selective with men and will need patience and time to build trust. Once that bond is formed, Smokey is deeply loyal, affectionate, and devoted to his person.

Smokey would thrive in a calm, adult-oriented home that values routine, respect, and connection over chaos. In return, he offers steady companionship, quiet affection, and the kind of love that comes from a dog who truly chooses his people.

Smokey is neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested and current on all vaccinations, including rabies. He has been dewormed and started on flea/tick prevention.

To Apply for Adoption/Foster please copy and paste the following link:

https://orangecountyva.gov/158/Animal-Shelter
