Smokey's Story

Smokey is approximately one year old. He was found on the street as a puppy and sent to a high kill shelter. Fortunately, the rescue brought this beautiful dog to safety. In the meantime, the shelter was closed and Smokey has been with a foster for two weeks. He walks well on a leash and is good around people and dogs. Smokey enjoys going on long walks and sitting in front of the church with multiple children petting him. He is a large dog but very loving and gentle. Smokey will make a great family dog. A yard for him to run and play would be a place in which he would enjoy.
The foster has experience working with rescues as someone who interviews potential adopters.

The foster will be able to transport the dog via plane into California and can reach the Southern California airports. The adoption fee of US$300 will cover the transport.

When an approved adopter chooses to adopt a specific dog, they pay our adoption fee (which includes transportation) and we make plans to fly their dog to them. We find a person to fly with the dogs and we usually fly dogs in groups of 5-11, We fly to cities in the US and Canada that have a direct flight from Mexico on a dog friendly airline. If we have at least 4 dogs going to a city without a direct flight, we will fly then drive the dogs to the city. BONE VOYAGE DOG RESCUE (BV) will only adopt dogs to applicants that agree to meet the following criteria: 1. The dog will be treated as a family member and will live inside the home with other family members. The dog will not be isolated and forced to live in the garage, basement, outdoor pen, backyard etc. The dog will be kept comfortable. 2. The dog will not be tethered. 3. While most dogs are protective of their home and will be alert to perceived threats, the dog's main purpose must not be for guarding purposes. 4. The dog will wear personal identification. A microchip is important but a tag ensures your dog will be returned to you as soon as possible. 5. The dog, if taken by a pound, shall not be left at a pound after notification that he/she has been found. If the dog is no longer wanted by the family, BV should be contacted and will reclaim the dog. 6. The dog will receive regular vet care to help ensure a healthy life. The dog will be kept free of parasites and will receive regular vaccinations. If the family financial situation changes, preventing the family from providing needed veterinary care, BV will reclaim the dog. 7. If a puppy is not spayed or neutered at the time of adoption, the dog will be spayed or neutered when he/she reaches the appropriate age, typically six months. BV will receive the spay/neuter certificate from the vet clinic where the procedure was completed. 8. The dog will be given an appropriate amount of exercise, play, stimulation and socialization. 9. The dog will be fed good quality, nutritious food and have access to water at all times. 10. The dog will not be euthanized without consultation with BV except for reasons of untreatable or incurable illness. This dog will not be euthanized for behavioral problems without approval by BV. 11. At any time, the adopter can contact BV to return the dog for any reason. BV will take back possession of the dog as soon as a foster or another adoptive home is found. Bone Voyage will vaccinate, spay/neuter, deworm, flea treat and test all dogs for Heartworm, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma and Lyme disease before they travel. Adopters agree that all expenses incurred after they take possession of their dog will be their sole responsibility and that BV is released from all liabilities, whether financial or other.
