Smokey's Story

You may remember Smokey from when he first came to us. He was brought to the shelter with broken leg and was sent to Edmonton where they could repair it surgically. Thank you to everyone who donated to help cover the cost! Smokey has been amazing throughout his healing journey and is truly a big love bug.

We have watched as Smokey gained his goofy, playful personality back and he now is feeling much better! He's a snuggler and loves being the centre of attention. Smokey is two years old and ready to take on the world along with all the fun adventures it has to offer. He's now gained his strength back and he really is a strong boy so we've been working on his leash skills which he has been improving in everyday. He also occasionally decides to play tug of war with the leash and although it is pretty cute, giving him alternate routes to burn off some steam will benefit him. Though he has lots of energy to spare, this sweet boy also has a gentle side to him. He loves big comfy beds, lots of stuffy toys and really just being spoiled with all the good doggie things in life.

Initially, Smokey was quite reactive to other dogs, but has made great strides in walking across the road from them and also even socializing. He's made a few doggie friends now, and may enjoy and home with another dog if it is a good match. However, he is selective with dogs and so far has not done well with other big males.
