Smiles's Story

Meet Smiles!

Smiles is a sweet, sensitive summer-child. He is the definition of "submissive". His first instinct when something spooks him is to roll onto his back and give his belly like he's a possum playing dead. This is NOT an invitiation to pet his belly - this is Smiles saying, look, see, I'm not a threat, I'm just a baby, leave me alone, please don't bully/eat me!

Despite being seven years old, Smiles IS a baby. A big baby. The biggest baby in all the land. He's a 44lb lab mix and he's desperately seeking somewhere safe, and quiet, and his.

First things first, the negative - Smiles has a bite history. Per animal control, the bite was VERY minor. In stereotypical canine fashion, Smiles bit the mailman. Again, we will reiterate...Smiles is terrified of life. He would sooner play possum than snap but, like anything with a mouth and teeth, if body language is ignored and if boundaries are pushed, there is ALWAYS the potential for a snap/bite.

He would not do well in high-energy homes with a lot of new people in and out, a lot of comings and goings, and a lot of general chaos. He would do best in a quiet, adult only home with experienced dog owners. He DOES do well with other dogs - he coexists peacefully and is content to just do his own thing. While he has not shown any red flags towards cats, we would prefer a home without them.

Smiles is timid. He is nervous. He is the cowardly lion in a dog suit.

When he likes you and starts to trust you?

Oh, he is a LOVE 💜

He's decent on a leash, loves plush toys, and is remarkably photogenic. All Smiles needs is his person.

To apply, visit foreverpaws.com and click adopt to download our application. Once complete, you can email it to us at fpas1@foreverpaws.com.
