Sledge's Story

Meet Sledge- a one year old 50 lb Great Dane/Boxer (and a few other breeds!) mix. Sledge is a sweet boy who was a shelter favorite! He loves everyone- men, women, kids... everything except big and loud trash trucks! He is up for a walk, car ride, or folding himself up like a chair on a dog bed.

He is skittish around loud cars or trucks on walks. He is good on a leash but must be distracted with food - Sledge wants to make friends with every dog! He knows a few commands (come, touch and lay down) but SIT is on his own time. He will bark for about 10 minutes if you go out of sight, and then is quiet in a crate. He loves to be near you and does track your location.

Sledge might do well in agility, barn hunting or other dog sports, as he created hurdles over his foster mom's recyclable container. He is working on putting on weight to get in his best physical condition and full athletic ability. We think there may have been a food allergy and have put him on a special/prescription food to help with that. He is very food motivated, and his kibble is used as a treat.

Sledge is very patient with kids (a toddler wanted to paint him with chalk and he was on board with that plan), but because of his size and strength, older kids would be best.

His awards would be "Best Personality" and "Best Team Player." If you want to add a happy, loving and energetic dog to your roster, apply for Sledge!

Sledge is fostered in Lexington, Kentucky. His adoption fee is $275.00.

To adopt this animal, please visit https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt

All of our animals come spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, are microchipped, heartworm negative, current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, dewormed, and treated for any ailments found upon veterinary examination. The adoption fee covers a portion of these services, and makes it possible for us to continue rescuing animals.

For more information on the adoption fees and the adoption process, please complete our adoption application here: https://www.louieslegacy.org/adopt - an application allows us to get to know your family better so we can assess whether the animal you are interested in is a good match for your home. An application does not obligate you to adopt. Please understand that due to the volume of applications some animals receive, we are unable to contact all applicants. If your application is considered a good fit for the animal you are interested in, or even a different pet, a volunteer will give you a call as soon as possible.

We are a foster based rescue and do not have a shelter location where animals can be seen during the week. Please see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LouiesLegacy for our weekly adoption album if you are interested in meeting an animal in person. Not all animals attend every adoption event, please check our Facebook page for animal event times and locations before you make a trip to meet a specific animal.
