Slash 3953's Story

Slash is ready to rock!!
This big baby is coming out of his shell and needs a new home. Slash came from a home with many other dogs. They did not get much socialization with new people and or new places. He was very frightened when first at MASH.
He has warmed up with time and loves getting attention from people he is comfortable with. He plays with toys, walks on a leash and sits on laps.
Slash can be a very loud barker, especially through doors or at unknown people. We do not think he will be a good fit for apartment style homes where walls are shared with neighbors.
Go slow with introducing him to new people and new places. Advise people to give him space and let him decide if he wants to interact. He enjoys treats and may relax if new people offer him treats.
Slash will need a family that will be patient with him. He will likely need time to learn how to be house trained. He will need to learn what things to chew on and what things not to chew on. We suggest crate training him when he is unsupervised to help him adjust to his new routine and expectations. Slash would benefit from someone who has time to be at home with him to help him learn.
Training is a great way to help strengthen his bond with his new family and boost his confidence. Use positive reinforcement, treat or toy-based training. We urge you not to use aversive methods based on fear, pain, or discomfort as these can be damaging to a dog's emotional and mental well-being. These methods can tarnish a relationship between a dog and their family.
Slash loves playing with other dogs! He would likely benefit from a social dog in his next home. He likes to play a little rough and can get mouthy. So he needs a dog that can handle that. When he spent some time at a veterinary clinic, he ran around with a pack of chihuahuas and did really well.
We do not know how Slash will be with children. Based on his nervous reaction to new people, we ask that all members of his new household come to the adoption appointment to meet Slash. This way we can help ensure a smooth introduction.
If you would like to meet Slash, please call MASH at 602-876-1212 to schedule an appointment!
