Meet Sky
Sky is enjoying being in a wonderful foster home while waiting for a new family to come along. Sky was adopted from us a year ago but was just returned because his owner's work schedule has changed and Sky is not a dog that is happy spending the day alone.
If you are looking for a dog that is young enough to be active but mature enough to be happy hanging out watching Netflix with you, Sky could be the guy for you. He is sweet, smart, obedient, and well-trained. He is a high-energy dog that does need daily exercise. Our volunteers all love him because he is so good on his walks and is very affectionate. He developed some anxiety from losing his long-time home, so he will need an owner who is not gone for too many hours each day. The family that returned him tried crating him but it would just cause him to bark and bark. He is not a good fit for an apartment or condo where his barking might bother a neighbor as he settles in. He does calm down once he gets used to a new place but it takes him some time.
Sky's original owner was forced to give him up when her landlord changed the rules about how many pets each tenant could have. We are looking to find him a new owner who will take him for a walk every day. When you ask him if he wants to go for a walk, he gets so excited. Sky gets along with other dogs and has a great time playing with them. He is good in the car, at the vet, and at the groomer. He loves children of all ages. He'd be happy living with children 12 and older. He weighs 42 pounds and turned five years old on 12/17/23.
The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an adoption application here: medfieldshelter.com/adopt
If a dog is listed on our website, he/she is still available for adoption, but there may be applications ahead of yours. We typically receive many applications for every dog we post. All adoption meetings are by appointment. Our dog adoption fee for dogs five years old or younger is $350. Every dog we place receives age-appropriate vaccines, is wormed, treated for ticks/fleas, tested for heartworm, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before adoption. We send each dog home with a collar and leash. Please fill out the adoption application if you want to be considered for a dog you see in our care.
With very few exceptions, dogs are happiest and the most well-behaved when they receive daily exercise and ongoing training, so we always prefer to place our dogs with families willing to commit to both.
