Skittles's Story

“SKITTLES” -INTACT female, approx 9-12 months, probable pure-bred. HOUSEBROKEN. This young almost Fox Red female Labrador Retriever was seen being tossed out of a pickup truck east of Akron just before the big snowstorm. The foster has run an ad in the Akron BEACON JOURNAL, but it does not appear that anyone will be claiming her. Evaluated by Sarah Steiner. Nice temperament, no real training at this point, altho' Skittles does understand the "No!" command, and will "Sit" if assisted to focus a bit. She is not hyper. Visiting in a strange place, she was busy for about 20 minutes, and then settled right down to take a nap. Foster will have her updated for vaccinations, Heartworm test and spay shortly after Easter. We scanned her today, and there is no microchip, nor any tattoo. Appears to be in very good body condition, but is a little unsure of whether people mean well. Because she appears to have been a "throw-away dog," and because she is a little unsure of 'up close' handling, we are not sure if Skittles may have been pushed around a bit perhaps by young children. Right now we have no knowledge of how she is with children. Skittles is fine with the older cat in the foster's household, but she tends to want to chase the two younger "kitten-cats" who are on the defensive about her. Skittles appears to have a high prey drive level. There are three other dogs in the foster home, and she is getting along well with them.
