Skeeter's Story

If you have ever spent time around a Border Collie, you already know they tend to operate on a slightly different level than the rest of us. Skeeter is no exception.
At just 9 months old, this boy is already showing us how incredibly smart he is. Skeeter doesn't just learn something and move on — he pays attention to everything happening around him and seems to pick things up almost immediately.
While playing ball, he has even shown us that he knows some herding commands, which is pretty impressive for such a young dog. He is the kind of dog who would probably thrive with someone who enjoys working with their dog and giving them new things to learn rather than just expecting him to be content lying around all day.
And for a dog with that much brain power, Skeeter has a surprisingly good off switch when he needs it. He joined us for the Harvest Festival Parade and handled himself so well. There were people, noise, activity and plenty going on around him, and Skeeter took it all in stride.
He also seems to really like other dogs and has been polite around cats. He has just been a genuinely enjoyable dog to have here. He is young, so of course he still has some growing up to do, but he is already showing us so many qualities that make him a really special dog.
He is up to date with vaccines, microchipped and neutered. Date of Birth: 12/16/2025
We would love to see Skeeter find someone who will appreciate that busy little brain of his and give him plenty of opportunities to use it. He's only 9 months old, and we think he has the potential to become one pretty amazing dog.
If interested in adopting, please click the link below to fill out an application:
www.bellwetherharbor.org/adoptions/application-for-adoption/

Bellwether Harbor's Adoption Policy
Bellwether Harbor does not do same day adoptions. Please keep in mind multiple visits to the shelter may be required. This number is determined various factors including the potential adopter’s experience and the training level/potential behavior issues of the animal. If you are interested in adopting a dog or cat, please fill out an application on the shelter website. After the application has been received, the Adoption Coordinator will conduct a landlord check and vet check (where applicable). If approved, applicants are contacted for a phone interview, after which an appointment may be set up to meet the animal. Please note: Applying for an animal does not guarantee adoption of said animal. Adoptions are approved based on a variety of factors. We do our best to match animals with the best homes, not the first homes. It is possible that adoption of a specific animal will be denied even if the application is approved. For more information on the adoption process, please visit http://www.bellwetherharbor.org/adoptions/the-process/
