Silas's Story
Our sweet Silas! ??

Silas joined us 6 months ago. He was an owner surrender to a local shelter. We were unaware Silas had a serious heart condition until the day of his neuter. He was found to have a grade 4-6 heart murmur and was referred to a Cardiologist where we found out that Silas has a guarded prognosis. His maximum life span is 1-2 years.

From Sarah Bell- Cardiologist: Thank you for sending Southern Indiana Animal Rescue to see us with Silas today. Silas has severe pulmonary artery hypoplasia and a large atrial septal defect. Patients with severe right ventricular outflow obstructions are at increased risk of clinical signs and complications - most commonly exercise intolerance, syncope, sudden cardiac death, and right-sided congestive heart failure. Silas is not a straightforward surgery candidate, but I'm going to reach out to some centers to see about his candidacy. Unfortunately his prognosis with his current disease is poor long term.

We are not pursuing surgery with Silas. The odds are not good and we want him to live out his best life until his heart can’t take it anymore.

Silas is 10 months old now. He’s suspected to be a terrier mix of some sorts. He’s only 16lbs and won’t get any larger. He loves other dogs, but can’t keep up for long. Silas loves to nap and lounge around the home. Silas is not fully potty trained, but getting the hand of it with potty pads and going outside. He is fully crate trained.

We are looking for a special family to give Silas the spoiled life he deserves. We aren’t sure why Silas was surrendered to the shelter, but we want to make sure we find him a great landing spot!

Fill out an application at sianimalrescue.org

Email us at rescueahoosierdoggo@gmail.com
