Showboat (JN25-495)'s Story

Showboat is a 4-year-old, 12.5-pound female Miniature Schnauzer with a big personality and an undeniable love for toys. While she's still not comfortable being around people, her playful side shines the moment a toy comes into view.

She absolutely lights up for playtime-chasing balls, chewing on bones, and romping around with her kennel mates. Showboat is food motivated, and treats are another great way to engage her and build positive associations. That joyful, playful energy is helping her build confidence, and each day she's learning a little more about the world outside her comfort zone.

Showboat has been making progress with handling, but it remains a thoughtful process that requires an adopter who is confident, gentle, and patient. She relies heavily on her canine companions to help her learn that people aren't so bad, and she requires a confident, established dog in the home to guide her and help her feel safe. She will also need a securely fenced yard, where she can explore and play safely while continuing to build trust at her own pace.

Showboat needs an experienced adopter who understands fearful dogs and is committed to patience, consistency, and gentle encouragement. A quiet, low-traffic home is essential-one that will allow her to be herself without pressure, while still supporting her progress through calm routines and positive reinforcement.

Because of her sensitivity and need for careful, thoughtful introductions, a second meet-and-greet may be needed prior to adoption to ensure the best possible match for both her and her future family.

With time, understanding, and the right environment, Showboat has the potential to continue growing in confidence and letting more of her joyful, playful personality shine through.
------
Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog's individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly. Being a part of their rehabilitation is a truly rewarding experience. To learn more about mill dogs and start the adoption process, visit our website!
