Shorty's Story

Meet Shorty - Your Three-Legged Ray of Sunshine!

At about 4 years old, Shorty is proof that resilience and joy go paw in paw. After two weeks of recovery from his surgery, his sweet personality has truly blossomed-and he has been an absolute delight to have around the house.

From the very first day we brought him home (a little groggy from the vet), Shorty has been a perfect gentleman. He's never had an accident, hasn't chewed or scratched anything, and sleeps peacefully all night on the cozy bed he chose for himself in the living room. He's calm, content, and perfectly happy to lie nearby, quietly watching the world go by.

Shorty is affectionate without being demanding. He'll happily come over for ear scratches and back rubs, soaking up love with his gentle, happy nature. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Once his cone came off, his playful side emerged-he now enjoys romping around the yard and chasing his doggy friends.

He loves his walks! Shorty knows the sound of the leash drawer and gets adorably excited at first, then settles into a nice pace and walks beautifully without pulling. He can be a little wary of passing cars and may stop to watch them-especially if they're loud-but he's gaining confidence every day.

Shorty has also handled car rides like a champ. He was a bit cautious at first, but on a recent two-hour road trip he relaxed, looked out the window, laid down comfortably, and showed no signs of car sickness.

Most importantly, Shorty is not defined by the fact that he's missing a leg. He's not a "special needs" dog-he's a healthy, happy, capable boy who doesn't let anything slow him down. He's simply a wonderful dog who will make a loyal, loving companion for a very lucky family.

If you're looking for a calm, affectionate, resilient best friend, Shorty is ready to hop right into your heart.

Our adoption fee helps cover expenses (vaccinations, microchips, spay/neuter, food, housing) for the homeless pets we rescue. UAF does not adopt or ship outside the state of Arizona. To ensure the best fit, UAF conducts a home visit to meet other pets and verify a safe, secure yard.

If you have any questions or to adopt a dog an application must submitted. Filling out this form does not obligate you to adopt, but gives us the information needed to make sure the pet is suited to your home.

HOW TO APPLY: From Petfinder.com The fastest way to get to the adoptable dog page is to copy and then paste this link into your browser: https://unitedanimalfriends.org/adoptable-dogs/

When you are on the UAF website Select "Adoptable Dogs" and pick the dog you are interested in. To apply to adopt, go into the dog's profile, and click the gray "Apply for Adoption" button to get started.

You could be a life saver!
Help us save more lives by fostering a dog or cat.
