Shirley's Story
Meet Shirley — the little grandma who refuses to give up.

It’s hard to imagine how this tiny 10-lb senior girl survived on her own.
Shirley was found wandering in the middle of the street in Long Beach — coughing, limping, and covered in painful mats and sores. She could barely see, yet somehow kept moving, hoping someone would notice her.

Someone finally did.

Now, Shirley is safe and loved — and slowly healing. She’s quiet, gentle, and endlessly sweet… the kind of dog who just wants to curl up beside you and nap in the sunshine. She loves her little playpen, her stroller rides, and basking outside with the breeze on her face. She’s easy to walk, friendly with other dogs, and so grateful for every bit of comfort she’s given.

It’s heartbreaking that she was left to fend for herself, but her spirit is pure gold — calm, forgiving, and full of love.

Medical & Care Information:

We’re always transparent about our seniors’ needs so adopters know exactly what to expect. Here’s what we’ve learned from the vet:

- She’s approximately 10 years old

- Enlargement in her left atrium (heart)

- Arthritis in her back, with some vertebrae starting to fuse together (the cause of her limp)

- Developing cataracts, but she can still see and gets around fine

- Dental disease, which has slightly affected her bloodwork

- Shirley is currently on antibiotics for her cough, which is improving every day.

Once she’s fully recovered, she’ll be:

- Fully vaccinated

- Given dental care (she’ll likely need several teeth extracted)

- Started on pain medication for her arthritis

Her future adopter will be responsible for continuing her pain medication (and any ongoing treatment for her back). This medication may require bloodwork every six months to monitor her health. Cataract surgery could be considered later, though she’s comfortable and can still see well enough to enjoy life as is.

Shirley is a gentle, sun-loving soul who deserves a quiet home, soft blankets, and people who will cherish her for the rest of her days.

If you’re looking for a senior companion with a heart of gold — one who asks for almost nothing but gives endless love — Shirley is waiting for you.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions about her care or adoption.
