Sherlock's Story
Sherlock had a low grade Mast Cell Tumor removed from his left rear lateral thigh. It was locally invasive and given the size, adequate margins could not be obtained surgically. However, low grade Mast Cell Tumors can still have a Median Survival time of more than 2 years. It is possible that it will re-grow and could spread to regional lymph nodes, so continued treatment with Benedryl is recommended indefinitely as an anti-histamine since mast cell tumors can release histamine and sometimes be itchy. At this point he is very comfortable and having no pain. It is recommended to follow up with regular veterinary care after adoption for this condition.
