Shelby's Story

Shelby is a mix of predominantly northern breeds like husky and spitz. Northern breeds are known to be comedians and, true to her heritage, Shelby is a very amusing girl. Probably the most remarkable thing about this wonderful dog is how well she gets along with other dogs. She is friends with just about every dog on her side of the shelter!

Shelby’s mix of northern breeds result in a dog that is affectionate but not needy. Originally brought to us because she was a stray and there was already a dog in the household, she was adopted and returned when in-laws moved in and had allergies. Although Shelby has received obedience training in the past, her previous owners were erratic in their expectations and didn't consistently use the commands. Shelby now seems unsure when to obey and when to ignore. She will make a fine pet for anyone, but an owner who will routinely use obedience commands will bring out the best in Shelby.

A dog that we know we can take anywhere, Shelby was selected to attend the West Chester Dog Fest in June. She proved to be good in a car, crowds AND a nasty thunderstorm. She has a wonderful attitude as well as being affectionate and playful. She likes children, loves to be petted and scratched - with all these great qualities, it’s hard to believe that Shelby is still here, waiting for a home of her own! If you would like to meet this great dog, please call the shelter or stop by to meet Shelby!
