Shelby's Story

(DOB 11/13/2023) Shelby is a tender-hearted hound mix with a stunning red coat and eyes that speak volumes. A bit shy when first meeting new people, she's a quiet soul who is simply waiting for the right kind, patient person to help her bloom.

This sensitive girl has a naturally anxious temperament, but once she feels safe, her true personality shines through—gentle, loyal, and incredibly affectionate. She sleeps peacefully in bed beside her foster and her foster siblings, clearly comforted by the presence of other dogs. In fact, having a calm, confident canine companion is essential for Shelby; she draws strength and reassurance from being around other friendly pups.

She may not be the kind of dog who runs to greet you at the door just yet, but in time, Shelby will quietly steal your heart. For those who understand the beauty in slow-growing trust and the joy in helping a shy dog find her place in the world, Shelby is a truly special companion. Shelby is looking for someone who understands that love sometimes starts with quiet moments and gentle encouragement. If you have a soft spot for shy dogs and the heart to help her bloom, Shelby will reward you with deep, lasting companionship.

Shelby's ideal home is one that's calm and consistent—a peaceful retreat without the hustle and bustle of young children or loud environments. She thrives with humans who move slowly, speak softly, and offer her the time she needs to feel at ease. Shelby will require a home with a safe, solid fence to hang out and play with her 4-legged siblings. Non negotiable. She is still mastering leash walking and likes to potty in the privacy of her own back yard.

Are you the gentle, understanding person Shelby's been waiting for?

As part of Shelby's $300 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little girl, you can email Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org. If you wish to adopt Shelby, you can fill in an online application for her under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website: www.pawsforlifenc.org.
